TOPIC: Update on Completed Rod of Seven Parts

Update on Completed Rod of Seven Parts 10 years 2 months ago #1

The details on the completed Rod of Seven Parts Transmuted Eldritch token are almost finished, and I thought I would give an update here.

I am of the opinion that this completed Rod should give out a cool and unique bonus to those collectors who have supported us for so long. The outlay for the below program is a bit high, but I think it is justified given the debt owed.

Each individual completed Rod of Seven Parts will come with an unique small ID number printed on its surface. (Yes, each token will be unique since each will have a different ID number).

Each token can be used ONCE per year to allow the player to play a new sub-class of the 12 character classes (and it will automatically be at 5th level). When you get to Gen Con Indy, and if you plan on using your token that year, you need to stop by the TD Store to claim your Sub-class voucher.

Once you have obtained the character you are going to play in the Coaching Room, you will then turn in the voucher to the Coach so that you can have the associated sub-class of the chosen class. For instance, if you are playing the Rogue, and you turn in the sub-class voucher, you will get a special new character card that is label Rogue (Assassin) at the top.

This new sub-class will have the same stats as the 5th level main class (to make the Party Card function) but it will have some unique powers as well as some nice additional benefits that you will pick from card. The Coach will then make those upgrades on the Party Card as she would normally to other bonuses There will be a check mark box on the Party Card to alert DMs to the change.

These sub-class character cards are not super-powerful, but it should be a fun one-time thing to do each year. It will be nice to get the 5th level benefit in a slotless manner.

Thanks for your patience with the release of the info.

Must invent time machine...

(So I can discover TD and order tokens earlier)

I like it. :) Looking forward to finding out what all of the sub-classes are now.

Wait, does the completed rod still grant all of the same bonuses as the pieces?

A very cool an unique idea indeed! My only question, what happens to all of the benefits of the segments when forged into the rod (stat and save bonuses etc)? Those capable of forging the completed rod most likely plan to do many runs each year, so the benefit of the level bump and subclass is cool, but would not do much of anything for all the extra runs unless the there was a latent "passive" power of the token when not being used for the special subclass run.

the first line gives everyone a clue:

To me that says more information will be forthcoming and the posted ability is not the only ability of the rod.

How does this work with the Eldritch Set bonus? You can use the Rod once for an alternate class, but does it have any other powers? I assume you can still use it in general to get the set bonuses.

I'm not sure that I will turn mine in for that. I'd want to see them.
