TOPIC: What Do You Do with less Usable URs

Re: What Do You Do with less Usable URs 6 years 3 weeks ago #13

Use them as trade fodder or something to sweeten a deal.
Yes they might not have the value they originally did but such is the way of life. Some tokes go up some go down.

You 'say' the hat of healing isn't valueble but look at all the possible options for hats for the caster classes. You'll find that the head slot isnt' over crouded as some other slots and the hat is still a viable option for many classes. (post a trade thread and i'd be interested)
Will you find a trade for a ring of riches? likely no but all that means is not all Ultra Rares were made equal and thats true of just about every game out there.

As for the ring, it certainly is a viable option. You've just opted to fill both ring slots with your riches, which was a choice to pull more treasure versus ingame effects. For True Grind your Ring of Riches might as well be an empty slot as it has no effect at all.

Hope that helps shed some light.
I'd be interested in trading for either or both of those tokens. So that should tell you it has some value. Weather or not that is the value you want has yet to be seen. But let me know what your interested in, or ideally post a thread and let everyone know what your after and maybe a trade will happen.

It is my hope that recipes will include “X ultra rare token(s) from any year” or “Y completion token(s) from any year.”

I was quite exited when I saw that the Ring of Heroism required “six different completion tokens.” Then I was sad when I read “from 2013+.”

but then how did you feel when they came bouncing out of the treasure box like popcorn?

I pulled my first purple(s) this year. I had a blast! I thought more URs would have showed up on eBay, but the numbers are lower than I thought.

I have to admit the well stocked treasure box served us well also. I hope it wasn't at the cost of the cohesiveness of the game itself.

I think creep has devalued URs (maybe only perceptually) to the point where people aren't so eager to put them up on Ebay, although certainly some still find their way there. There are plenty of relics and other transmutes and other specialty tokens, as well as some older out of print URs that are still best in slot or slotless, on Ebay.

I can see where being able to trade in certain UR's that have lost value as part of a recipe to make a Relic is a good idea - such as the Ring of Wizardry. Good ring, but are you going to use it in the face of other rings now? Likely not.

Another example might be the +2 Longsword. It doesn't sell for more than $60 nowadays, and even that is a stretch. Why? You can get a rare "red" +1 Longsword for $5. Is that extra +1 worth $50? I don't think so personally. But what if you could use the UR +2 Longsword as part of a recipe to make a Relic +3 Longsword of some type? That right there would probably shoot the value of the +2 Longsword right back up to around $100.

You are right.

The only untraded, unneeded URs we have left are weapons, +2 longsword, +2 club, +2 trident.

I'm not sure I'm in favor of +3 weapons. It's just more creep, but I'm thinking creep is becoming the name of the game here.

And I think Jeff has been doing that. There have been some older URs that were added as a potential relic turn in. I suspect eventually some of these others will find their way into relics eventually.

As for the older URs comming out of the box I think they was super cool and many others do. I personally didn't draw any but it was neat to see. Weather or not Relics should have been in there is in great debate but no one seems to be debating the inclusion of older URs.

I personally don't think URs should be tradable into fleece but having more relic options would be decent. For example A relic sword would be reasonable to include any UR sword as an ingrediant not just the +2 long.

If it's done for one weapon, it will have to be done for all, or at least done in a way that every class can benefit. That means transmutation into multiple weapons so that each class has some transmute they can use.

An alternative might be to develop the wizard's spellbook concurrently. That way, they wouldn't miss not having a better weapon.

I would think we'd eventually end up with Relic weapons. Probably something very generic like a +3 club anyone can use. Obviously would be better for/ more sought after by some classes but that is the way of all tokens.

It would be nice to eventually have a relic token availble for any slot, but suspect eventually they will be class restricted.

There are two way to deal with unwanted URs. Either trade them away to other players or E-bay them. There are many players who only do a single run a year who would gladly trade all of their GP for a "devalued" UR. There is a wizard in my party who would gladly use a Ring of Wizardry.

I think some way of transmuting URs would be good but I don't think it should be for Trade Goods. I think some awesome Relic might use "4 Ultra-Rares" as one of the ingredients to show how awesome the item is.

Some of the Legendaries already require a ton of investment to make so I don't think adding to the power creep by making +3 generic weapons is the right way to go. Maybe more items like the Scythe of Reaping are in order so people can trade in less valuable tokens for the same token with a minor effect. I know a +2 Great Axe that also added +3 STR would be cool and I'd be willing to Transmute my "worthless" +2 Great Axe and Girdle of Hill Giant's Strength plus 10 specific trade goods for it.

I think the Ring of Wizardry could be transmuted with 10 ink and 10 parchment into a really awesome ring or even gloves that could grant a similar effect like a +4 to hit with slid spells and allow it to be used on scrolls.

Something like this would be neat:

Mithral Dust (pick a current year token)
X trade items
2 Ultra Rare tokens, form any year* [4,000 GP / $100]
5,000 GP [$125]
= 9,000 GP [$225]

*The lower valued ones tend to sell for $40-50
