TOPIC: Newbie token questions here

Re: Newbie token questions here 10 years 10 months ago #13

Speak with Dead allows a dead player to speak with the party, instead of following quietly through the dungeon. (a dead player is not allowed to speak.)

I would guess that a +2 weapon will not be very useful in overcoming DR, but that is the type of thing where it would be secret information. The last couple of creatures I remember needed a +3 weapon to overcome DR (Dracolich last year, and Chain Demon). Those may have only been on Nightmare though. For the record, there is only 1 +3 weapon in the game, it is a Holy Avenger that was modified by a Deck of Many Things on a Golden Ticket run.

As far as the speaking with dead goes.... a player that 'dies' in an early room gets to follow the group, but doesn't get to help. Speaking with the dead may make them more useful, lol.

Well, now you have +3 missile weapons, if you have enough +3 Ammo of Alteration to spare....

I think the usefulness of speak with dead really depends on two things:
  • Did anyone in the party die?

If your party enjoys a 100% servival rate, speak with dead is moot.
  • Are the deceased interested in helping to solve puzzles?

If yes, then the odds are speak with dead will be very much appreciated by the "recently departed".
If the ghost player doesn't care about helping with solving puzzles but still wants to participate in combat—even if in a limited fashion—make sure they equip a Shirt of Spiritward before entering the dungeon. It will allow a ghost to slide a combat puck. The ghost can't damage the monsters, but the ghost's slider can act as a bumper/bumpee.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

So far, more DR has been overcome by damage type than by enhancement bonus. Silver is the way to go this year.

But don't count out that extra +1 to hit. A 17 might be a difficult slide, while a 16 is comparatively easy.

Thankfully, non-set weapons can be swapped, so there is little reason (mostly real world costs and weight) not to have both.

As for Speak with Dead, others have that covered in terms of party members, but don't count out the possibility of a helpful ghost NPC.

I don't think anyone here would call Jeff a 0, and no-one would believe them if they did.

Unless you are saying someone might call Jeff the leader of the Black Knights. But I wouldn't believe that either. All Hail Britannia.
