TOPIC: Max amount of weapons?

Max amount of weapons? 11 years 9 months ago #1

Just wanted to make sure,

Is there a limit to the amount of weapons I can bring into the dungeon? Because (ideally) Id like to bring a one-handed melee weapon with shield. Then on top of that bring a two-handed melee and two-handed ranged. (with gear bonuses for each)

Is this okay?

Unless a set bonus is involved, you can switch held items, namely weapons and shields, at will. So, you're really only limited by how many you can carry into the dungeon...

I'd say you'll want a primary melee and a primary ranged at a minimum. Have a backup isn't bad.

I guess technically there is only the weight limit on tokens you can bring in. I carry a stack of thrown weapons.

I appreciate it. That is why I wanted to make sure, so I have some back-up/specialty weapons available.

Thank you both!

Now it would technically be cheating to use the one handed and shield for the party card and then use the two handed in the dungeon without telling the GM that your armor is less.

And that would be almost impossible for a DM to notice during combat.

Yes if you switch you should certainly tell the DM because you primary weapon combos are factored into the card. The stats would be off if switch things around.

It's only cheating if you get caught.

Kind of takes away from the game if your try to find ways to break it.

Wasn't there some sort of a ruling that once your stats are calculated based on one set of melee and one set of ranged (and associated armor) and put on your party card, you couldn't change in the dungeon?

DMG page 10
When a set contains a weapon, shield, orb, or anything held in (not worn on) the hand, the hand-held item must be used when engaging in its respective mode of combat. E.g., players using a melee weapon to fulfill a set bonus may only use that specific weapon if they choose to engage in melee combat. Players using a ranged weapon to fulfill a set bonus may only use that specific weapon if they choose to make a physical ranged attack. Players using a shield to fulfill a set bonus may not use any other shield.

DMG page 36
Other than weapons, shields, wands, and items held in (not worn on) the hand, all items must be worn for the entire adventure. Therefore, all other “worn” equipment including armor, rings, gloves, ioun stones, charms, etc. may not be swapped once the adventure begins.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
