Either one sounds pretty cool. Good luck!

No, I've just been against group-level effects from the very beginning.

so you don't have a charm or awareness? That gives a group effect.

If I decide to build one it will be hopefully one of these two options(depending on what it cost me to make)
1. Group effect ..everyone gets X extra treasure pulls (i dont think would effect any in game stats)..along with me never having to do a darn rogue box again.

2. Me only...I get to dual wield with any character I play (possible a third hand if I play monk or ranger..stipulation..i have to wear hand of glory)

I dont think my group effect would change game play..or make it too powerful......

Hey man I did a run with you this year, Dragons Redoubt on Saturday morning. I like both of these. They both seem fun without being too over powered. Let me know what I can do to help you get the gold needed to make one.

Can you explain to me why you're against them? How does another person's run affect you?

I'm not trying to be sarcastic here. I'm really trying to understand why one person's benefit in TD upsets so many other people.

I have to agree with Henwy that it looks like jealousy. If it's not jealousy, then what is it?

You're seriously comparing the Charm of Awareness (affects one single roll) to the sort of power an artifact gives an entire party? And no, I don't use one.

Some I will admit to being 'balanced', but others are still completely egregious; Smak's first one and the new Backpack for good examples. The first removes the need for 30 URs, and lets the party wear anything else they want in those slots (with a laughable 'drawback'), and the second can again give a huge boost to party power.

You want to call it jealousy? That's fine; you're as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine.
Blimey!

land sakes! think of how much you could have ebay'd that for!

Mike Steele wrote: Wow, the item is even more broken than I'd thought. I thought you'd have to sacrifice items each run, pretty amazing you get the effect for all of GENCON.

Kithren Bloodwood wrote: I don't see where this is broken. How the artifact operates is an agreement between Jeff and the maker of the artifact. It shouldn't really be a concern to anyone else.

gotta agree with kithren...the maker of true dungeon creates these and decides what they do. complaining about a token that you don't own, that doesn't affect you or your game seems like sour grapes.

the arcane recipe could have been yours, just like everyone else in the game. don't cry because you didn't get one seems to apply here.

nobody is saying you can't have your opinion, but jumping up and saying it's broken seems to be casting a stone.

jtillots wrote: Can you explain to me why you're against them? How does another person's run affect you?

this is the question i'm dying to see someone answer...
everyone who 'complains' or 'has an opinion' on artifacts and what they 'can' or 'can't' or 'should' or 'shouldn't do' never seems to answer this relatively simple question.

Also...what did Smakdown's Charm do for him this year? It seems like most of the people in his group are rather well equipped. Seems like most of them would be wearing 'of might' set things already, artifact or no.

Speaking of which...isn't everyone here the same bunch that lobbied for his artifact not to grant him a 6th level this year? If that isn't sour grapes I dunno what is :S

In 2 years I'v been on 3 runs and a grind with artifact holders - All experiences were extremely fun. I really WANT one for myself, but since that can't happen now, I am certainly not going to be making a stink about something I can't have! If you're not on a run with an artifact holder - then it has no effect on your game at all, period. Also from what I've seen and heard (and experienced), running with the guys who hold the artifacts is a WHOLE lot of fun - not only because many artifacts give group effects, but beacause the holders themselves are the kind of people who truly want everyone in their group to have an awesome experiencce!

DISCLAIMER!!! As a person who spent six years active duty - I FIRMLY believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to speak it freely - hence I'm not bashing anyone! However, I do respectfully disagree with the notion that artifacts are in some way hurting the game of True Dungeon.

(Just my 2 cents):P

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!

1. artifacts are bad....and nobody wanted them in AD&D.
2. they are unfair to others....is TD player vs player? or player vs environment?
3. artifact effects in AD&D were wildly divergent....kind of like TD.
4. making a simple easy weapon costs a fairly reasonable amount. crazy powerful item will cost a crap-ton. i can only speak for myself, some choices ideas i had were really to costly. others were given a polite, but firm "NO".
5. what would be the point of having gold in TD treasure tokens if there wasn't something to spend it on. at the volume of tokens buying some folks engage in, gold adds up very quickly.

In reply to #5: charitable donations to me. They are still being accepted even if you need artifact gold.

Also in reply to #5 - hopefully just as much GP will be pulled out of circulation (along with a bunch of Trade Item Tokens) with the new Relic Tokens next year - only spread in smaller amounts across a lot more people.
