TOPIC: Ring of Fire Elemental Control and Crown of Might

I would vote yes to your proposal and timeline. It can be enticing to newer players as they fall to the allure of collecting...

I've been playing TrueDungeon for a few years now. I've probably got more tokens and Purps than a starting player, but significantly fewer then a prime time collector.

Candidly, This year has been an interesting one for token purchases.
Already (thanks to the two year purchase window) I'm shifting URs I would normally be doing a PYP for into next year; it helps my pocket, but means few sales for TD- certainly this year and possibly next year (if there are great gotta-haves in 2012). And with repeats now coming up, this may mean I may further put off purchases. After all, why buy the Black Lotus now if it just going to be reprinted later.

Obviously, I'm one person in a much larger market, but from my point of view, I would rather see more newer, innovative tokens.

No objections from us.

Sounds great, will allow those newer collectors to still get sets.

If the Might set is going to be the normal way of getting to play a 5th level character, then I would make sure to seriously consider what will happen with the Might set for years to come.

I think with the creation of Advanced TD, the demand for people to be able to play 5th level will go up drastically after the first year it is played. If the tokens to get there are already out of print, that's going to seem weird. Yes, it's not required to be 5th but you will be at a noticable disadvantage if you are not. I wouldn't see any problem with offering reprints of all the Might items in the future, especially if it is stated now that it is possible. Rotating one back into the set each year might be a nice way to do it. For most possible reprints, a longer schedule is probably in order, but when you are talking about tokens that have an effect that is heavily associated with a whole version of the game that changes things.

i agree that 5th level needs to be accessible to new players in future years. however i disagree on the method of constantly reprinting the might set. i dont see a problem with new sets being made that also grant the 5th level bonus...and just like the might set; these sets can be 5 items with different extra bonuses for having more than 3 of them. making each 5th level set unique.

That would be fine, too. I just hope some thought is put into the future of 5th level attainment. Reprinting items has it's issues, but creating new items that mimic old items has its issues too. The sooner peoples' expectations are managed on that the better, and I think there is more to decide on than just when/if the Crown of Might is reprinted.

what about the slim chance that a level 6 card will be needed soon? :woohoo:

Is there a chance of that? I thought Jeff made it crystal clear that the "Gain a level" abilities don't stack, and that at most you can get a +1 Level increase to Level 5. Given that, the only way we can get to Level 6 is when the base level goes up from Level 4 to Level 5 - I'd guess that will be a few years, given how long it took us to go from Level 3 to Level 4.
