TOPIC: Ring of Fire Elemental Control and Crown of Might

Ring of Fire Elemental Control and Crown of Might 13 years 4 months ago #1

Whether to re-printing these two tokens is a thorny issue. My guess is the best plan is to re-print the Crown of Might in 2012, and the Ring of FEC in 2013 as part of the URs of those years. We have re-printed many URs in the past, and they were not even parts of Sets. However, re-printing them will make a few people angry as they view it as a poor idea.

I guess it is time to make a decision on this.

What is your final input on the matter?

Thanks!

I think the 2 listed and the time tables are good. You got my vote if it matters.

I am fully willing to trade tokens and/or unique skills for obtaining items. I am even willing to spend some cash on Black Market (used) tokens.

However, when a token only becomes obtainable through vast sums of cash I feel it is time to reprint it. Both of these tokens are hitting that 'only obtainable via vast cash' walls. When the tokens hit this point, the fun of barter is lost.

Please reprint these in the future.

Jeff,

I'm OK with reprinting on those timelines. I'd even recommend reprinting the entire Elemental Ring set at one per year starting in 2013 and the entire Might set starting in 2012 at one per year. For the Might Set, future players are going to want to have the opportunity to also play at 5th Level, and reprinting the Might set is probably better than introducing more Sets with the "Play at 5th Level" ability. I think it is OK to have 2-3 reprint UR's in a 20 UR set each year, and I think the demand for each of these sets justifies reprinting them - not so much so that current players that didn't buy them can get a second chance, but so that new players that never had the opportunity to buy them can get the chance to do so.

Thanks,
Mike

I agree with the timeframes and the approach. Reprinting of key tokens (UR, part of a set, or otherwise) is good for the game.

My vote is yes, please reprint these, based on the schedule noted above.

Doesn't matter to me - I can't afford enough URs to make up either set.

My two cents are divided.

On the one hand, I am a player, not a collector. In that respect, it is no skin off my nose if you reprint. I am not going to whine and complain about the value of my existing tokens going down so players who did not have a chance the first time around are able to get those tokens.

One the other hand, I'm a player, and every reprint means one less new token, one less way to improve an existing build or create a new archetype. And, as I have pointed out, the power level of tokens will need to increase as characters and monsters become more powerful. Going backwards limits this.

But in the end, I am all for giving new players a shot at sets and old power tokens, so I say reprint.

I'm not in favor of reprinting these so soon.

If nothing else, we'll be hearing about this issue again in 2012 when the Orb of Might becomes unavailable, and new players want the full Quintet of Might. And I shutter to think about the possible uproar when the power of a completed Rod of Seven Parts is revealed...

Regardless of what is decided, collectors would benefit from a clear understanding of reprints. I think the PyP choice from the last two years is a great move in this direction, and after the Crown & Ring is settled, some sort of policy of "no reprints for at least five years" would be very helpful to stabilize expectations as well as the collectors market moving ahead...

I like the timeline and when it comes to sets, new players should have access to attaining them without having to sell a kidney. I support that most tokens should not be reprinted every year, but some should exist on a rotation. I do not want UR tokens to be common, but I also don't think they need to approach a price of a HoP or an AoW - both tokens that are super powerful and cool, but both of which I will never have as I would rather pick 2 purples up from a PYP sale instead of pay the ever increasing cost of those two chase tokens.
