REDGuild

If what you see here interests you; or you'd like to lend a voice of support, or criticism, please feel free to post!! (I'm adding a members list to the bottom of this first post...)

REDGuild is a group of like-minded TD enthusiasts with common goals:

1. To run TD events with only Common/Uncommon/Rare/Combo tokens. (nothing Purple, Artifacty, or Orange)
2. To help promote the game to new players.
3. To make the game even more welcoming than it already is to newbies (by providing loaner tokens for REDGuild Runs).
4. To facilitate RED Runs by purchasing blocks of tickets and distributing them (at cost) to people who are interested in Running RED.
5. To help promote the creative use of tokens, beyond the stats.
6. To help show that TD isn't about tokens, it's about fun... but Tokens are awesome!
7. To help show that purps are not necessary to have fun at TD, and in fact not necessary for success.
8. To help create an atmosphere for noobs to feel that they can run a pretty well-put together group without spending a ton of cash.

REDFAQ:
Q: Are you trying to run TD on the cheap?
A: No. I plan to order just as many tokens this year as last year, and that was enough to eat free at GenCon...

Q: If you're going to order that many tokens, what about all those purps?
A: Well, they're going to be used to trade for more REDS... in fact, REDGuild will be announcing a PYP-REDTRADE promotion soon.

Q: What's this PYP-REDTRADE promotion? It sounds cool!
A: Well, yes, it is cool. It's going be a program where REDGuild Members auction off their PYP choices for bids consisting of non-purp tokens. I'll float the idea around and see how much interest there is... if it's not something people are interested in, I'll probably just be trading away the purps to help outfit more REDGuild Members.

Q: How many runs will you be doing at GenCon?
A: I personally plan to run about 4 times (plus a couple TrueGrinds, if I can get the tickets this year), but I'd like to help fill more runs than that with REDGuild Members.

Q: How can I become a member?
A: Asking is all it takes.

Q: Can I be a REDGuild Member if I have a boatload of purps?
A: Yes, Smak, you can. The only restriction in the guild is during REDGuild Runs we run Red. Certainly people who run other times are welcome to be whatever they want to be.*

Q: What do you have against Purps, anyway?
A: Nothing! It's just that running RED seems a good idea to me. It started with personal reasons (other members of my group were not purple...) but has moved into the lofty realm of idealogical/philosophical/whimsical.

Q: What about combo items? Or loot pulled from the treasure boxes?
A: REDGuild Runs will be Purp (and Artifact, and Orange) Free... I'd love to hear thoughts on combos, but I don't see using Purps at all in our future.

Q: How can there be a FAQ when you just announced this?
A: I have a Ph.D. in Creative Writing, that's how.

Q: What will a REDGuild Run be like for a total noob?
A: Well, if you're running with me and my brothers, you'd show up to find a pouch of loaner tokens (no purps... duh!) plus a binder of armor and wearables we could show the coach so you could wear them. The loaners would be the weapons, and would be yours for the run. This is really just a formalization of what I did this year at the Con... IF you're on the forums, though, we'd talk ahead of time and get your class chosen and get you kitted up ahead of time.

Q: Who will the REDGuild Tokens belong to?
A: Since I am the only member of REDGuild right now, me (and therefore my wife... and well, my daughter too, though she's too young for TD).

Q: Are you affiliated with the MicroBuyers' Guild?
A: Nope. But Molda and crew are awesome and I've traded with a bunch of them and think what they're doing is really cool!

Q: Will there be t-shirts?
A: Absolutely there will.

Q: When will this FAQ ever end?
A: ...

*Smak was used as a funny example, he has not inquired about joining REDGuild, was not harmed in the making of this REDGuild Post, nor were any other Tokenholics.

REDGuild Members

PaulDK
Dylanstarks
The Collector (not on the forums)
Captain Obvious (not on the forums)
Jennifer (my wife)
Willow (my daughter... an avid collector and trader, but too young to play yet...)
Molda
thalaric
Kubu
Shrieking Emu
Kathy
Governor
archmage78
Rafiq
Enes
haasdt
Sarielv
Sonofrich
schwertfisch
I'll start the bidding on any Purp with a Ring of Reflexes, Ring of Iron Will and a Ring of Fortitude

Sounds like fun. Maybe change the wording in #1 to "To Run True Dungeon Events without Ultra-Rares". That opens up the possibility to use Combo Tokens, Reward Tokens, etc.

It's your money, but it does sound like overkill to buy $2K worth of tokens if you're not using Ultra-Rares. If you spent just $500, and traded your two Ultra-Rares for Rares/Uncommons/Commons, I'll bet you could get all you'd need for several party members to run. A $1K order should definitely set you up, it would give you at least 5 Ultra-Rares plus the Rod of Seven Parts Segment to trade for Rares - and that alone should be enough Rares to outfit an entire group.

Cool idea! I would definitely like to join RedGuild for a run or two in 2011!

The idea of putting a greater value on sliding and puzzle solving skills sounds like a lot of fun. Not to mention there will be no stress over possibly losing a purp token in the dungeon!

Remember - combo items are not purps - they're blue.
