The concept of other races is fun and certainly a staple of most fantasy games, however I tend to agree with Beowulf. The more rules, tweaks and modifications that are added the more difficult to manage. I don't think TD wants to get to the point where editions of rulebooks and dm guides are required to play (admittedly a little overdramatic statement but you get the point
)
In my (limited) experience and interpretation, TD is meant to be about the players; testing their wit and coordination. The character types/sheets are there to set a reference and mindset as well as offer some balance since not all men (or women) are created equal.
Again,
I love the concept of including more non-human races (the rogue class last year was a halfling, my favorite!
) I almost always play them in my PnP and online games. Heck, I have a couple compadres who make outstanding dwarves and would be a riot to go through TD using that mindset. I also think minor tweaks accordingly wouldn't be too cumbersome. BUT, it is a slippery slope once you start down it. I personally would rather forgo the slide to prevent TD from becoming laden with rulebooks and rule interpretation.
I'm sure Jeff, Lee, Lance, Jenn, Dave and all the TD design crew have discussed this to some length. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some experimenting over the 'Cons as they tweak and improve with each passing year.
Keep up the thinking! :!: (Apologies for getting a bit windy there. :oops: )
