TOPIC: Netflix's The Forgotten Realms (Cancelled) New Project Ravenloft

In one of Netflix’s biggest TV bets in the fantasy space to date, the streamer has taken in for development The Forgotten Realms, a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series, sources tell Deadline.

This project is currently in the filming stage. Pilot is supposable completed and additional episodes are in the works. Netflix and Hasbro are both being extremely tight lipped about this project with no word on casting or a release date yet.

Cool to hear. Hopefully the dungeon and dragons honor amongst thieves gets put on Netflix too since I have yet to see it.

It will be neat to see. It's great that all of our (or at least my) niche hobbies and interests from childhood are mainstream now.

Not sure on what is the holdup with this project, though it is still in the works. A release date is loosely set for late 2026 or the first half of 2027.

Still not much out about the series, but they have said it will be fully original stories set in the Forgotten Realms not tied to previous content.

I’ve been rewatching some older D&D-inspired shows on https://123moviies.net/123movie to get a feel for how different studios handle fantasy vibes and it made me even more curious about how Netflix will tackle this one
If they lean into practical sets and creature work instead of glossy CGI, it could really land
I'm hoping they keep the tone grounded enough that the setting feels lived-in

Well this is interesting. Nexflix has scrapped their Forgotten Realms project, and has pivoted to Ravenloft.

Netflix is developing Ravenloft, a live-action series based on the popular gothic horror setting of Dungeons & Dragons. The drama comes from writer/executive producer John August, executive producer Alfonso Cuarón and Hasbro Entertainment.
