PETA Targets Games Workshop, makers of Warhammer 7 years 10 months ago #1

PETA UK have written to Games Workshop, makers of Warhammer 40,000 and its myriad table-top gaming models, asking them to cease depicting imagery of its myriad characters wearing animal fur and make them “fur free.”

Ridiculous, wasting time railing against images of fictional animals, guess the shelters are empty and all the real animals are covered. Guess its telling that there was a Penn and Teller BS episode about Peta.

I love animals. I've been an animal rights advocate* all my life. So know that when I say PETA are out of their collective minds on this one, it comes from someone who really cares about critters. There are so, SO many better places for PETA to direct their efforts than this ridiculousness.

I was like, all ready to post a link to snopes on this thread.

But no, no. Is real.

I have no issues with this. I think people getting upset about this is about as ridiculous as PETA working on this.

In addition to the fact that no animals were harmed in the making of the figures, I see it as a matter of effectively using one's resources. Once all the real animal cruelty has been eliminated in the world, then maybe start worrying about itsy-bitsy teenie-weenie plastic figures that can only be seen when viewed very close-up and used by people playing a fantasy game that in the grand scheme of things, isn't very popular. (That's not a dig a W4K, I'm just saying that a small percentage of the world's population even knows what it is, let alone plays it.)

Sounds like someone involved in PETA recently lost a game vs the Space Poodles Wolves....

Since I don't know what they are doing besides asking Warhammer to stop I don't that it is using resources that could used elsewhere. Just saying don't know that they are hurting anything so I just understand why folks are going on about it. But again I really don't care so I will bow out.

Mostly because its absurd and its fun to express an opinion, that said I don't really care one way or the other if they want to send letters.

Although... In a certain sense, folks on io9 are talking about it, we're talking about it...

Seems like an effective PR stunt so far - although I guess you have to believe there is no such thing as bad press...

This wouldn't make me more likely to donate.

Yeah, but there is a decent chance that it will net them more donations than they spend on it, thanks to getting attention from multiple sites and getting spread for free.
