TOPIC: Helping Boston

Helping Boston 11 years 8 months ago #1

I just donated $26.20 to The One Fund, which is raising money to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. I encourage you to give what you can.

Just FYI - there is a Rally for Boston this afternoon at a running store and Boston sports bar in Santa Monica this afternoon. One of the events is a 5K Fun Run. The run and the events are fundraisers for the victims of the Boston bombings. Should be a lot of fun!

I did the Rally for Boston 5K Fun Run at Top to Top and Sonny McCleans this afternoon. It was a little warm, but I ran the entire run at an easy pace (about 8:50 per mile). And the knee was fine!

Glad to hear you had a good run, Brian. I hope a lot of money was raised by the various runners. Its still boggles my mind that this kind of thing happens :(

Brian, thanks for reminding us to help others. In today's world it is too easy to lose sight of the need to step outside of ourselves and give help to those in need.
And similar to what Raven said, I have been trying to wrap my head around just what it takes for human beings to bring themselves to perform such acts. It is not a simple or straight forward process. Unfortunately, there are organizations that are indoctrinating people in these kinds of beliefs and turning them out by the bus loads. It has been a way of life overseas for decades. I salute our people for keeping it at bay as well as they do. It is impossible to be right 100% of the time, but they have been doing a great job anyway. This time, the bad guys got through, but they don't do it often.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity! (Luckily I'm only half.)

Well, there were many good guys doing the fun run, plus many more doing the hang-out-at-the-bar-and-drink thing (the bar is donating a percentage of the money raised). Great donations from some great companies for a raffle and a silent auction. If I find out how much money was raised, I'll post it.

As someone living in Boston and working at MIT, let me say that the sympathy and support from the rest of the world truly means something. Thank you.

Here I was just thinking to myself that we don't have anyone on the forum that's from Boston, but I guess we do! Glad you're safe DrUnknown, and that these guys were caught!
