TOPIC: Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet

So, I am looking into getting a mini-tablet/e-reader. The interwebz (outside of Amazon itself) seem to give a slight edge to the Nook Tablet (which is my knee-jerk choice). But my mom wants me to get the Kindle, so I can use her Amazon account and we can share books.

So, I put the question to my friends in the TD community. Do any of you have one (or both?) of these? Anything you love? Anything you hate?

2. My better half has a kindle, and likes it a lot. However, she hasn't used it much since getting her iPad.

Brian said it. If you want a tablet go iPad, if you want an ereader I recommend the kindle (not fire but the $100-150 one). Free 3G to download books is great and you can even 'loan' books. My wife and I share a amazon account so we can both read some books. The kindle is easy on the eyes and has the biggest library available. But if you want a tablet the iPad is the most stable and versatile.

I don't want a full size tablet, for a variety of reasons.

If I get the Nook Tablet, I should(?) be able to download and us the Kindle e-reader for Android.

And as for libraries, the main reason I didn't get an e-reader until now, is because I was waiting for them to carry manga. And Nook now has a couple hundred titles, while Kindle has a couple dozen. Not to mention Nook's search function make the titles easier to find.

I have a Kindle Fire and would not recommend it. It is an OK device for the price. The biggest flaw is it has a horrible GUI for organizing your stuff-- you cannot create folders for apps or books you download, the ability to sort and organize books is poor so your books just end up jumbled together any which way, and the web-browser will not let you organize your bookmarks. Also, the touch screen is not very accurate- a small factor for reading books, big factor for playing games and web-browsing.

I've got to toss another vote in for the iPad. I've got both an iPad and a regular ePaper Kindle. I love my Kindle for reading text-based pieces (since reading lots of text off a glossy screen eats up just enough cognitive load to bug me). But, the iPad is king for anything graphical. I have found it wonderful for reading comics, gaming books, maps, and any other texts that integrates graphics. Also, the iPad's web functionality and apps are really useful for both gaming and work.

I know you have targeting either the Fire or the Nook, but I think you may regret not going for an iPad after a couple months of use.
