TOPIC: Dungeon Delving Board Games

Dungeon Delving Board Games 13 years 3 months ago #1

Being that those of us on this board like dungeon delving in TD. I was thinking many of us probably like Dungeon Delving Board Games. I was thinking we could post our favorites.

Me
WarhammerQuest - It had it all, cool minis, campaign rules, changeable dungeon, solo play - just a great game

Dungeoneer - It has the feel of talisman, but with a changeable board and a cheap price. I hope Thomas Denmark finally releases the roleplaying game.

Descent - A Fantasy Flight monster. Tons of minis, cool dice, the surge mechanic is pretty cool. Tons of detailed expansions. It gets negative points for taking a tad to long to play.

I was a big fan of WizKids Mage Knight, and especially the Dungeon expansion. I really enjoy Descent, too. However, Mage Knight Dungeons is great when you want a faster playing game.

I will have to try some of these. I am doing a Dungeon Delve Board Game weekly gaming session at my house. I have not played Mage Knight Dungeon or Order of the Stick.

Has anyone played the new D&D board games like castle ravenloft?

In theory it looks cool to me.

ive only played one of the D&D board games. if you want to play D&D, but without all that pesky role-playing and only %10 of the rules; it is totally the game for you.

I play D&D pretty often now but sometime you just want to hack some monsters and kick down some doors. I have a softspot for them, since when I was a kid my mom had the notion that D&D was going to make me evil. So I cheated and got games like HeroQuest and DragonQuest to get my roleplaying fix and fly under the parental radar.

DungeonQuest.
Not the new version. The 90's GW edition- cause it's a classic!

I had to keep D&D under the parental radar as well - my father being a Baptist Sunday-school teacher - well you just know anything that promotes (OMG) Dragons... and encourages people to role-play (gasp) Wizards... well that just came straight from Satan! (No discussion - no re-considerations - just the word of law that is a parent's belief that they are protecting their child from evil!) This was a well-meant initiative, but HORRIBLY misguided! So from about 1984 forward, I never much spoke of it again, just kept my head down and played at friend's houses, with the cover story of "studying"!

Oh and I also throw a vot in for descent - a very fun game!

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!

I was going to mention the old Dungeon game myself Mike, I loved that game.
