TOPIC: Proud to live in Austin (re KATRINA)

Proud to live in Austin (re KATRINA) 19 years 3 months ago #1

I just had to post about how proud I am of the town I live in. Not only have many local families opened their homes as temporary housing to Katrina evacuees, but we have OVERFLOWED the drop-off centers for food, clothing, etc. I'm talking about several large warehouses. They've had to suspend taking in anything else until they can get it sorted and distributed (which takes time, even with lots of people volunteering).

Yeah there sending some up this way, too, but they seem to have been misplaced. We were suppost to get around 500 people on tue, yet not even they have arrived.
Its funny how something that takes multiple days to set up comes down in a few hours...

Hey, I like Wisconsin--there's so many trees!! But I'm easily amused as I live in Illinois.
