I check the door for any traps, and means to open it without resorting to force.

If Lexan finds no traps, but the door is locked, Breon will open a small tube hanging from his belt. Pulling a piece of parchment from it, he mutters, "Perhaps this will work for once." He unrolls the parchment, holds it before the door, and reads it aloud. The writing on it glows as he reads, but then fades away.

The scroll does its work and you hear the latch click and feel the door recede from your touch letting the now blank parchment sail away on the wind.

Inside the room a sweet smells waft from the delicately appointed interior. Windows on the west wall are covered by heavy red draperies, hanging stiffly from the high ceiling 20 feet overhead. Their tassels of golden fiber glint in the light of three candelabras sitting atop small tables about the room. Tall white candles burn with bright, steady light. A large bed, canopied by silken curtains, sits with its headboard against the north wall. Lying amid the velvet and satin sheets and bedclothes is a woman in a nightcoat. One of her dainty slippers has fallen to the floor at the foot of the bed. Carved into the headboard with great skill and care is a large "Z." Double doors lead from this room to the south and east.

Through the lenses of true seeing, is there anything about the room or woman that is out of place? Is she awake?

If she is asleep, my dancing sword leaves my hand and poises itself across her neck. (If awake, it will hover by) I draw my other sword.

The woman, girl really sleeps easily. To your eyes she appears normal if out of place in this wicked castle.

"Could this be Ireena? My magics cannot detect life or the lack of it, but I don't need magic to detect sleep. Shall we wake her?"

"Someone what to check her in a mirror," I whisper as I slide closer.

I take out one of my silver daggers and with all the practice and skill I can muster, hold it under her nose without making a sound or actually touching her.

Does her breath appear on the polished blade?

"If this is Ireena she is safe enough until sundown. Strahd has probably charmed her, so there is no benefit to waking her just yet. It may not even be possible if her slumber is magical. And if we do wake her she may prove more hindrance than help. Whatever the fiend has planned will happen then. We may as well let her rest until we climb the tower and learn what we can.

"But if she is some sort of monster then we must slay her quickly and move on."

I recite a brief prayer and cast my gaze about the room knowing that I will see and sense evil when it comes within my gaze. (Detect Evil)

The girl has breath and casts a reflection in the polished steel, charmed into sleep or just sleeping it is hard to say but she is not Ireena though by her garb you would guess she hails from the same village.

"I am in favor of waking her," I whisper to the group. "I think she may be able to help us. Also I think she would be safer with us than left here alone for Strahd or his minions to harm."
