One of True Dungeon's most beloved volunteers, Brendan Lapsley, has been fighting a rare non-alcoholic liver disease for some time now, and it has already progressed to cirrhosis. He is now experiencing more severe symptoms, and he is going into complete liver failure. He developed ascites (fluid in the abdomen) that now requires weekly drainage. On the 1st of September he was hospitalized when toxins (usually filtered out) accumulated in his brain causing mental confusion. Luckily, medication absorbed these toxins, and he was released after four days.
Last week Brendan met with several members of the liver team for an evaluation at the University of Wisconsin Transplant Center. He is now on the liver transplant list. He has great friends in Madison, but he will need 24/7 support at home for about six weeks after transplant. And then more support is needed in the months to follow. He would greatly appreciate any help to reduce rent and insurance premiums costs while he is recoving.
True Dungeon Fundraiser for Brendan
Brendan faces many financial challenges while awaiting his transplant. Additionally, he will face more hurdles after the transplant. Lori Martin, a co-owner at True Dungeon, has received permission from Brendan to organize a fundraiser for him.
At Gamehole Con, Lori will collect cash donations from folks at the True Dungeon event entrance during the times listed below. To sweeten the pot, anyone donating at least $100 will instantly receive a Bead of Need Ultra Rare token. For token collectors planning to transmute a Mythic Coin of Wealth at Gamehole Con, this donation will allow them to fully create the token without the need to send in the Bead of Need after Gamehole Con.
Finally, the Martins have decided to fully match all proceeds raised for Brendan at GHC (up to $10,000 for a total of $20,000), so any donations made will automatically be doubled for Brendan.
