TOPIC: LFO Friday 9:01 am Runecrag Crypt

LFO Friday 9:01 am Runecrag Crypt 3 months 5 days ago #1

Hey Adventurers,

LFO for the game. Have 2 of the tickets (myself and my brother David)

David is geared for paladin
I am geared for several classes but am looking at playing one of the fighter classes, doesnt matter which. We are both geared for NM, might be Epic if group is right. But we are up for any difficulty.

I also have 2 tickets for myself and adult son. We are both geared for the upper end of NM, usually Druid and Monk but can field any caster and any melee. However, with GenCon PUGs there are so many new players I generally just assume that most runs are going to be normal and self nerfing.

That sounds about right honestly but maybe with the 4 of us we can at least convince other for at least Hardcore. Either way look forward to seeing you all there. And hope you have a good con.

Hey, I think we're 3x of the ticket holders for this run. We are definitely beginner level, this will actually be my daughter's first time as she just hit the age threshold. Sorry but the comment on PUGs was correct.

We're pretty open to whatever as long as we get to participate, i.e. we don't want to die and be forced to silently follow along the whole time. I'll definitely work with my daughter on slide and move during combat so we don't slow down the encounter.

I tend to play rogue for the puzzle clues, and my brother tends to play a fighter class. Trying to convince the kid on a healer

No worries at all man. I love a new run. For the past few years I have been playing and some of my favorite runs are with those who have never played before. We can certainly take our time and make sure your daughter has a great first experience. Matter of fact one of the runs I am doing is with my wife who has never been to Gen Con and has never played before.

If there is anything you can think of that will make your group's experience more enjoyable please let me know.

Thank you, just trying to avoid the horror story of being railroaded by a high level group. Your response has already alleviated that worry. My brother and I have probably done 5 or so runs, so we at least know what generally to expect.

I heard there is a token store somewhere that I was considering stopping by and see if they have 'basic' class packages and how much just to make sure the kid makes it through even if things go pear shaped.

I look forward to adventuring with you all

I don't think that any booths at GenCon sell starter sets, but Trent does (trentokens.com) for about $40-$50 and you can pick up at GenCon if you pre-order.

That said, and I'm never one to discourage someone from the drug that is token collecting, they generally aren't needed for running normal. I also typically bring a bag of a couple dozen decent rares that I give to any new players who want them. But even giving tokens feels like railroading to some people, so I only bring them out if the group seems willing. So, my advice is to buy a set from Trent if that seems fun to you but don't feel any obligation.
My comment for the healer is same, if that sounds fun to one of you then, by all means, go for it, but don't feel like someone has to. My favorite class for PUGs is druid but I have no problem playing cleric if required, and either way I can primary or secondary heal as little or as much as people want.

Cool, so it looks like we have a solid 7 (Dan and his brother; Jason, his brother, and his daughter; and then my bro, and me). Like Dan, I tend to keep some rares and whatnot with me to give to players. Also hard agree with Dan that for a normal run you don't need to buy tokens. Honestly unless its a UR or higher, I just give my tokens away that we get in the blind packs to players who are just starting. I'm sure between the open blind packs we can get a decent gear set for what someone wants to play in a normal run.

Also sounds like everyone is in here to have a good time. And that's the most important thing, So as long as we're all moving to that direction, I think we're good. Look forward to seeing you all there.

She chose (without influence, cause my wife reminded me what is important) cleric. She wants to spellcast, but wants to wear armor too.

I have no issue on more experienced players lending gear to do a harder difficulty, happened before without issue because the intent was positive. I plan to spend 10-20 bucks on basic cleric gear as much a hype building thing for her as gearing her up to survive. I don't expect it to level her up to the next difficulty. Thank you for the tip on where to start looking

Think my brother is planning on ranger, or whatever the throw two pucks at once class is. Silly ambidextrous people...

I wasn't trying to push for a harder level, I'm fine running normal. Although, if you want, we can almost certainly give and lend enough to be successful at hardcore. Whatever you, and the other as yet unknown party members, want is fine.

I may have just come out from running down the token ordering rabbit hole. Both the kid and I should be pretty stocked up with rares. Not sure where the threshold for moving to a higher difficulty is, but she will have no issue clearing normal.

30hp. 16 AC. 8/4/10 saves
+6 to hit, +8 dmg +4 shock (she came up with the idea of being a storm cleric)
+1 to all healing, additional +1 to lvl 1 heals
Few other bells and whistles

She's pretty excited.

That's rad. Honestly the big thing that makes difficulty selection viable is defined roles and confidence in that role. Like if I was playing bard with the build if I'm going all out I could solo run a group of 9 absolutely new players (never played before) through Hardcore if they wanted. But ultimately, it's up to the group and how comfortable everyone is with wanting to learn mechanics and whatnot.

This is not to say I want to play a higher level. Given that some players have never played before. I love TD and will have fun in any experience.
