TOPIC: Downtown Indy Parking for GENCON, parking spot procured. :-)

Downtown Indy Parking for GENCON, parking spot procured. :-) 1 month 3 days ago #1

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone gets all the True Dungeon runs they want tomorrow!

It looks like we might not have a downtown room this year at GENCON. Does anyone have any info on the best way to reserve downtown parking spots near the convention center? It would be great to get that locked in if we're going to have to be driving in. :)

Thanks!
Mike

I always use Gate Ten parking, even when I have a downtown room, because it is much cheaper than hotel parking. However, I just checked and they have closed online sales.

I believe you can reserve a space in some of the nearby parking decks in advance, but I have never done that.

We use gate 10 every year and we drive in from Michigan. The spots are close and each lot has a shuttle drops you off right at the front door of the convention center. It’s also pretty cheap. But passes went on sale months ago so and the good lots sell out quick (at least in advance). Their website is kinda bad but all you do is pay and show the person at the lot a confirmation email to get in.

The capitol commons garage (adjacent to the Marriot, under the small parklike area across street from the convention center) has spots available at iparkit.com. We used that last year. It was fine, only confusion was there are 2 barcode scanners on the way in and there isn't any indication which one will take the iparkit qr so a bit of panic until we noticed the second scanner. We were staying at the Marriot so did not utilize the in/out priveleges that the reservation says it allows so I can't review how well that goes.

I think most of the bad reviews online for that garage are people that hadn't reserved so ended up paying a ridiculous hourly rate rather than the reserve rate.

Thanks! I think it must not have spaces available anymore. When I click on "buy" and then try to put in the GENCON dates, it doesn't take them. I double-checked Gate 10 also, and it doesn't even have GENCON listed anymore. The search goes on. :)

I was able to make a reservation there via Spothero (garage address 284 W Washington St. (10 S Capitol St.) - GP001 - Capitol Common Garage), but then I noticed this on my confirmation email: This facility does NOT allow in/out privileges. You CANNOT enter & exit more than once.

Did anyone else have a problem with that? Clearly that doesn't work for a four day reservation for an offsite hotel. Does the Capitol Common Garage really not allow in and out privileges?

The fallback of fallbacks is the White River State Park Garage at 801 W Washington St Indianapolis, IN 46204.

Across the street from the J.W. Marriott, BUT it is super expensive (40 a day).

Reserving parking at another facility isn't a bad idea.

My friend was able to get a reservation at Capitol Commons Garage from iPark, that does say it has in/out privileges. I suspect my reservation probably did also and Spothero was incorrect, but we didn't want to risk it. We've finally got the hotel, parking, and tickets set. Whew!
