TOPIC: Suggestions for other things to do at Origins

Suggestions for other things to do at Origins 8 months 2 weeks ago #1

I'll only be doing Origins things on Saturday and was wondering if anyone knew of some fun things to do that morning at Origins until my TD runs in the afternoon. Doesn't look like RPEX or Starship Horizons is there. Thanks for advice.

If you arrive Friday night, there is a great event late Friday night. It’s the Kobold Midnight Massacre (the game is Kobolds Ate My Baby.)

Otherwise, Saturday I’d recommend D&D Adventurer’s League - the Origins games tend to be fun. Mech Al-ha Strike is pretty good as well.

Per Starship Horizons Discord, it sounds like they'll be there. Probably just not added in the event system yet. There are hardly any board games added yet either.

I am going the whole duration and plan to do a TD run or two, SH, board games, and social deduction games.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

They usually have a robust pickup board game scene in the CABS area.

They usually have a large number of werewolf, clock tower, and other deduction games.

I don’t play, but the pathfinder and d&d scenes are usually several long hallways of games.

Starship Horizons are definitely on the schedule -- even though all the events are listed as Season 1, so maybe no new scenarios yet. I'm guessing they are back in one of the wings again like they were 2 years ago.

These events and the others besides TD (already on sale) go on sale this Saturday at 1 PM.

If anyone here wants to do a Starship Horizons TD group, let me know and I will join.

I plan on daytripping on Thursday. Do some TD, and take the time to wander the dealer hall. It is much less crowded than Gen Con and many of the big vendors are there. So its a good time to really see whats out there.
Now I haven't been since 2018. So it may have changed. I had planned on 2019 but got bronchitis bad right before. Day of I had a 101 fever. I wasn't going to be THAT guy. The year before, my buddy and I went for the whole duration, but it felt so flat compared to Gen Con. My buddy said he wouldn't go back. I didn't think it was that bad, but Columbus is no Indianapolis, that's for sure.

Origins is finally getting back to where it was slowly, while still being Origins, regularly yearly mistakes and all.

I'm planning on being around and usually glad to meetup with folks. Starship Horizons is definitely on my list to do and would prefer to play with a preplanned group.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I will be posting some Starship runs to fill on their Discord.

I also really like playing Dread at Origins (horror RPG with a Jenga tower as the mechanic). The Windmill folks who run it at Origins do a great job.

I will be playing Fellowship of the White Star, alternative history RPG. You can find their events by searching FWS. Actually, I'm not signed up for any True Dungeon events. I love working the Local Install & Dismantle Crew for TD - it's so fun, the ultimate erector set, with electronics! I'll sometimes play TD if anyone has any extra tickets and wants an extra player where they keep the tokens that fits around my FWS schedule. I don't collect TD tokens at all.
Building Dungeons and stocking them with Monsters, now that is the life...

Setting up and taking down the dungeon is tremendous FUN!
I volunteer to do this every year they have TD at Origins
