TOPIC: Request for Champion Set Bonus

Is it too late to petition a Set bonus for the Champion Items? Previously in 2016 we released the Amulet of the champion as a volunteer token, and I am guessing since I did not see it previously that next year the Charm of Champion's Choice, Ring of the Champion, & Ioun Stone of Champion's Choice are all going to be volunteer tokens as well. I think it would be a fun idea to have a Trio and/or Quartet bonus for the items as they just feel like the magic items of a great hero. Plus it is always fun to give something neat to the volunteers as they are the ones earning the items even if they are not keeping 100% of them.

One issue would be that it wasn't announced when the Champion stuff started coming out. Some volunteers may have traded/sold their Champion tokens in the past and adding a bonus now might make them feel a little burned.

If there was a set bonus for 3 items, you would be able to get that with the 2022 tokens.

Well the only champion token that would be the odd one out would be amulet of the champions, as the rest of them are being printed this coming year. I don't see the harm in making the champion set as it would make the volunteer tokens that much more desirable, and easier for people to off load for those that look to sell. It can be something simple like +1 to AC for every champion item equipped.

Also I see so many tokens that fit better in those slots, and PYPs that outshine the volunteer tokens that a set bonus almost seems necessary to make them desirable to people other than collectors. This is just my opinion, but I do really think a set bonus volunteer token would be awesome, or volunteer tokens that have a little more to be desired.

I do appreciate that the tokens are going to be more varied so that the market doesn't become inundated with the same volunteer tokens that people are just going to be selling or trying to trade away.

I would be ok with vols having another set to encourage repeat volunteering, but I wont be to fussed either way.

I also dont know where this UR and lower sets all need to be available in the same year and with warning thing came from. I'm very much ok with taking multiple years to collect a set and if any part is rare or old it can always be reprinted should we have demand.

Whether or not the champion items are a set bonus won't affect my decision to volunteer. My argument is just that volunteer tokens seem to have very stagnant abilities, and are really only in demand by collectors since most players don't need stat buffs as they can get flat bonuses from other sources.

Also making the volunteer tokens a set will help to encourage people to volunteer full time at multiple conventions because having reliable people constantly volunteering is a good thing. As we get more and more cons every year, and VTD probably becoming a regular thing, the extra tokens will be very nice. Even if they are not a set, I do hope that the volunteer tokens get a slight bump in the future as just the stat bonus are kinda lack luster. I know some people will argue the opposite that volunteer tokens shouldn't be that good, but I disagree.

As for tokens being reprinted, the choice is either power creep to replace best in slot tokens to keep people buying new tokens, or reprint older tokens so they become available to more players. That is a discussion for another thread. But since most classes have a rare amulet slot bringing back the amulet of the champions would likely not replace any of the rare amulets that volunteers would likely use.

With all that said, next year I am going to try and be present for the design of the volunteer tokens as I think they need to get some more representation.

Champion transmute that can include Amulet of the Champion.

Hero transmute that can include Amulet of the Hero.

This is consistent with doing other transmutes that include older tokens never planned to be transmuted, while upvaluing older tokens that may have lagged in value.

The main danger here I can see is that it makes the volunteer tokens too valuable. But, everything done or not done changes token values, so ...

While not everything needs to be a set, sets allow someone at a particular rarity perform above that level assuming the set bonus is good. Ex: defender’s and Footman’s sets.

If volunteers had awesome sets, I would think it would be really cool. Like a +1 level set bonus, or +1 all stats, or immune to surprise and free action, etc.

I like the idea of a champion set giving a level bonus (or that they could be transmuted into a level bump item.)
