TOPIC: Pax South info needed

Pax South info needed 6 years 2 weeks ago #1

As a first time attendee, I have a few questions.

1. I’ve attached a screenshot of the convention center. Can someone mark it up and let me know where TD is likely to be? Also, any other general layout hints would be great.

2. The lateness of publishing an event listing (for non-TD events) is driving me nuts. Will there be board games? Panels? Seminars? I must plan ahead!

Thanks for any info!

I believe, if I remember right it’s on the south side of the convention center but it is definitely on the second floor. I don’t remember seeing any boardgames there.

If it's in the same place as 2018, it will be in the Stars at Night Ballroom. It's up the escalator as you enter the convention center.

So the map you attached is not exactly showing the whole convention center. This will be my forth year attending Pax south and True dungeon has always been on the third floor of the eastern end of the convention center. If you go in the north east entrance and go up the escalator on the left it will right in front of you. Also there are board games but not as much at other conventions. If you want to play in any of the board game tournaments you need to sign up first thing in the morning as soon as the con opens because they fill up extremely fast.

That's where we will be this year as well.

They do have some board/card game events, and there is also demos around the exhibit floor as well as a library of games to check out.

Panels/Seminars are the majority of what they do. They will have the Penny Arcade Q&A, Draw A Strip, Storytime with a Keynote speaker, usually some Live D&D, as well as nightly concerts.

They also have a large exhibit hall, video game and computer game areas, and pin trading.

Thanks everyone! If I don’t see or can’t get into any board gaming events, I could at least go look at the Alamo and river walk. Maybe I’ll see if they still need volunteers at TD, too.... Or go on a gazillion runs.

I choose the gazillion runs option myself.

It will be my first PAX. I don't really like the lack of ticketed events personally. It seems like more of a free-for-all, and I agree with you Binia -- I like when my schedule is more structured at conventions. But, I'll explore the exhibition hall and will try to get in on some board games when I'm not doing TD also. Their website says they have a board game library so that is good.

I did a quick walk through of the main hall last year, I could have easily missed something, but there was not a lot of interest to me, mostly video games. I did see some kind of card tournament going on.
Pizza vendor in the dealer hall was bad, street tacos were good.
