TOPIC: Did you go to PAX South and how was it?

It was too late for this year, but doing a little google-map recon, it looks like the San Antonio train station is two blocks from the convention center. That makes PAX South VERY attractive for me!

How was the con? I am not a video game player, so are there things to do for non-video gamers? Whats the attendance like; 60,000 GenCon-like or 15000 Origins-like?

Whats the nearby walking distance hotels availability like?

I would love to go next year if True Dungeon is there. How was the TD experience?

There were board games there too. Td was great. Didn't do a run cause I was sick a little and my volunteer schedule but pax south people loved it

I volunteered so I didn’t see much of the con. But I did see some card game tournaments in the dealer hall. The convention center is very new and modern, even has some filtered water filling stations buy the restrooms. The Alamo is just a short walk away and so is the riverwalk. A reasonable amount of hotels and food options in walking distance. I would say the size of the convention and feel is closer to origins.

The people I dealt with were all great as well. Just a real easy going crowd.

I ran the training room for the Demo as well as helped set up and tear down. Needless to say I was busy.
Demo saw over 2000 people come through. There were enough breaks and start times allowed me to see the dealer hall fairly extensively but not much beyond that. Overall I thought the con was very enjoyable and i'll do it again next year. The hotel, the Dury Plaza or whatever it was called was a bit of a hike but its was nice and the food perks were great! I did manage to go to some nice restaurants and extensively saw the riverwalk.

So I attended and I was one of the reasons Valetutto saw so many people. I kept directing people to the Free Demo. So much so that I recommend TD do one at every con besides Gen Con.

For a new player PaxSouth was awesome! What could be better than TD in nice weather!

Is the training room not a thing at the other cons?

I had never heard of True Dungeon before PAX South 2017, and the demo is what got me hooked. It's also how I convinced my friends to join in at this year's event. This year's demo room wait line was much better than last year's. It was great putting it inside a room as to not clog the halls. I'll never forget that forgettable first token.

I hope next year they do both adventures at South. They said there was enough room too if they get enough support.

The San Antonio river walk has a ton of restaurants that would be happy to take your money, but they also have In-n-out and Torchy's Tacos in town too. It's an easy town to get around it, parking sucks, but its better than Houston or Dallas.

The demo isn't though. PAX is currently the only.con with one I believe.

Sorry I meant the demo room. I think it was a great addition then.

Currently true. There was a two room demo at WYC the last year we were there.

I went to the first PAX South, and it wasn't for me. I'm not a video gamer, but a big board/card/rpg player.
There are much better cons for Board Games and RPGs.
However, I will attend every year that TD is there!

The convention itself it great for video gamers, and there is a small contingent of D&D players there as well.
They have about a dozen tables stacked with board games, and plenty of space for playing them.

I've been playing TD for 13 years at GenCon, but PAX South gave me the chance to volunteer.
I live in Texas, so it wasn't a difficult trip for me to make it to San Antonio.

PAX South is definitely a good place to go for TD, as it reaches a completely different crowd than Origins, GenCon, and GHC.
