TOPIC: Vtd interfaces down 8/15

Vtd interfaces down 8/15 1 week 3 days ago #1

I’m feeling frustrated about the interfaces for web and android being down. I convinced 3 first time vtd players to join and it wasn’t a great experience for them. If we had known 24 hours in advance, work arounds could have been done but not at the last minute. It sounds like an email might have been sent but most of our group never saw it (I still can’t find it while knowing what to search for.)
What do we want? Evidence based science! When do we want it? After peer review!

Oh, your Android version was down as well? I was running an outdated version of the app so it wasn't prompting for Roller ID, but updating to the newest version on truedungeontokens.com/character-generator quickly fixed that. Now if I could only find where the Bless button is in the Android app....

It might be time for an official vTD application updated and ran by TD. The ones ran by fans are falling behind with tokens and functionality needing updates. I use the website and I have to add tokens to make work arounds for stats. I’m not a programmer and I know life happens for the people who maintain the apps & website, but it is now affecting the quality of vTD.

I know they are two different things, but if there was a way to generically make a character and type in the numbers (like on a party card) it would speed things up when having to transfer from one to another.

I.E. One could enter the basic stats for Hit/Dmg and Saves so the rollers work (and something to let you choose 5th level).

Of course you might have to ignore things like elemental damage bonuses for the sake of ease but you can play VTD without the scramble of adding all your gear to the opposite app/website. This would make things at least similar to the in person party card experience in a bind.

100% agree.

This impacts conventions too. Participation tokens are quite useful & exciting for new players, but when they can’t equip the shiny new token they received on subsequent runs, that is a poor new player experience. I saw this multiple times at Gen Con.
Classes Played: Barbarian (75 times), Monk (64), Rogue (39), Ranger (37), Cleric (22), Fighter (16), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (11), Bard (8), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

I also think as far as the updating of the apps and VTD portals, I remember some are done by volunteers and work and personal lives can be a bit crazy. I 100% understand the frustration but I also know that sometimes you can’t predict when something will go wrong. Idk if testing is done before it opens on a VTD weekend, but if it is, it could also go on the fritz once the gates open and everything goes live. I was on one of the very first runs and thankfully the DM’s and everybody had back up plans to fill in the gaps until fix’s can be made. On that note, I do hope the new players were able to have fun and not be intimidated by the new environment enhanced with the issues experienced tonight.

This! VTD isn't a new startup thing anymore, it's well established and a major source of ticket revenue, and some of that revenue should be devoted to fully supporting the technology stack it needs.

I agree. It’s time TD fixed all this. I still can’t equip Charm of Thoth for my HC wizard and that came out last year. Imagine bringing in new players only for them to quit immediately when their VTD sucks.
Cleric since '09. Moonlights as Dwarf.

My wife and I still had a blast! Thank you Fred for letting us join and hope we didn't drag down the experience too much. She was really on the fence about trying VTD in the past, but we are excited to run the next one!

This is great to hear! I know it was a lot of fun having you both there yesterday. Y’all didn’t bring it down, we figured out a way around the issue and had fun! I hope to see y’all next time !
