If we want them to feel welcome shouldn't we have them pm someone else? ;)

And no I am not volunteering because again we want them to feel welcome.

Seriously though welcome all new folks. May all your dungeon deaths be glorious.

Not sure why you would have to post this but I volunteer to field PMs if needed

Some new people don’t want to post a question ( because it maybe buried in forums somewhere and they don’t know it) some don’t like asking questions to a group.
So I was giving people a warm welcome and invite to ask so they knew someone would answer.

So I won't PM because I'm comfortable being the newbie but I just signed up for PAX west for my wife and I because I've always wanted to try it, but I'm a bit unclear on how the group part works? I assume we just all kinda get put in the room together 15 minutes before we start and just kinda work through it, but I've seen references to people working stuff out early. Do we get put into some kinda forum group or something for the timeslot?

Also in general pointers are welcome. I'm in it for the experience so you know, it would help if I didn't face plant so bad that we all die and ruin the experience for everyone.

You can enter coaching up to 30 minutes before your start time.

Selecting classes can be arranged beforehand. Watch the forums to see if someone stats a thread about your run time. Otherwise, it’s done in the coaching room.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Or you can create your own thread. Under the resources section you can look at the character class cards and read a players handbook

its a good idea to be honest. I know when I started I had a million questions and did not want to be a burden to anyone, or worse yet look like a fool.

Congratulations on finding the forums so early! You’ve already found the players handbook so you’re way ahead. The game is designed for players to walk in off the street and be able to play.
I’m one of the coaches. Everyone starts in the coaching room, which is the introduction where you learn the basics of your character. From the coaching room you go to the training room where you learn the basics of Spell casting and melee combat.
For your first couple of runs these should be sufficient. If you decide to play more often, the Forums are a great place to lurk just remember it’s the internet so grain of salt and all.

Welcome and remember the Most Important thing is to have fun

Welcome! You'll be fine - everyone here was a new player once!

1. The Coaching period lasts 24 minutes, starting at the beginning of your ticket time. During this time you'll open your free 10 pack of tokens, meet the rest of your party, select classes, and equip and trade your tokens.

2. You can get to the coaching room up to 30 minutes early, this gives you time to review the classes, your tokens, etc.

3. Some people, as a completely optional part of the game, log onto the forums here and make a note for their run, somehing like: [CON NAME] [MODULE NAME] - [TIME SLOT] LFG

Others can find that and coordinate. The main purpose of this is to:

a. Build team spirit.

b. Plan who plays what class (this is not final till the coaching room - especially if not everyone in the run is in the forums)

c. Plan the difficulty of the run (Normal is the default, if everyone agrees you can play Non-Lethal, Hardcore, Nightmare, or Epic. Hardcore, Nighmare, Epic should only be attempted by experienced players with lots of practice and optimized token builds).

You can read the "Uncommonly good tokens" guide linked from my signature to get some overview of the main mechanics of the game.

It's worth mentioning that if a group selects classes for a run on the forums, those selections aren't binding if not all group members are on the thread. Someone showing up in the coaching area isn't locked out of a class because someone selected it ahead of time in the forums.
