TOPIC: First Time Player - Had a Blast!

First Time Player - Had a Blast! 7 years 6 months ago #1

At Origins I got my first taste of True Dungeon, and let's just say that I am HOOKED! I am really glad I got into 2 runs for GenCon, banking on the fact that I'd enjoy it here at Origins.

I did both Into the Deeperdark and Behold Her Majesty, nearly back-to-back on Friday night. I believe the good bard Hawk Fingle was in my BHM run, and I want to personally thank him for being such an awesome player.

After my ITDD run, I was already so hooked that I bought at 30-pack of treasures in between. I had to sit in the coaching room before BHM, opening and sorting, looking for good pieces to deck my Fighter with.

Saturday was spent running booth demos in the dealer's hall, but before it opened I hopped over to the TDTavern set up and traded in ~2k gold of stuff for even more items for my Fighter. HUGE thank you to those guys (Kirk, I think?) for helping me on what to trade for. (Gauntlets of Ogre Power, Charm of Health, Boots of Agility, and Fiendish Charm).

It's 2 days after my first runs, and I've already spent even more on TD tavern for some other tokens (probably too much, my poor wallet -.-;;; ), bought a poker chip case for my bulk tokens, chip-sheets for a binder, and am making plans to have an actual prop for my main weapon.

I am HOOKED and I LOVE you guys so much. Thank you to all the vets who gave me tips and made it as fun as it could be. I can't wait to run some at GenCon!

EDIT: Also wanted to point out that I really hope TD continues to come to Origins! I'm a Columbus local, and I work Origins every year, so it's a bit easier for me to access than GenCon :)

Aha! Now I know who you are! :)

I'm so glad to hear you had a good time. Welcome to the forums! And do be careful with your token addiction. It can get the best of you. ;)

Here's hoping I see you next year, should TD return to Origins! In the meantime, feel free to get involved here. Lots of good people and solid info for new players to be found.

Welcome! This is the best place for info, especially on tokens! Consider searching for your runs at GenCon - get hooked up with your team now in the planning stage. Start here: truedungeon.com/forum?view=topic&catid=598&id=245096

TJ - Will do! Thanks for the tip!

Hawk - If they keep coming to Origins, I'll keep going for sure. Btw, how did you get a 16 token draw? O.o

Thank you all for such a warm welcome :D

Presumably he used this:
tokendb.com/token/charm-of-avarice/

There are several forum members on here that are selling them. Ask around and don't be afraid to offer a price lower than posted. The seller may decline, but in my experience it never hurts to ask.

Oh man, that would be sweet to have. I'm afraid I've spent too much on other tokens though to be able to offer anything close to a decent price on those, and I wouldn't want to low-ball someone just because I'm a (now) broke newbie.

One day though. I'd gladly unequip my Charm of Health to equip that monster of tokens.

There are less expensive ways to gain extra treasure. Lensesof fortune or Cloak of many pockets add one treasure. The Cloak is available in this years set. But they don't stack with any other treasure enhancers. Or each other.

A current ultra rare, the IS Silver nugget could be had as part of a $250 order. Or you could find one for less from a token store.

A charm of good fortune can add up to 4 extra. A ring of riches adds 3. Amulet of treasure finding adds 4. Those are out of print but you might find them in the $200 to $300 range.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir
