TOPIC: Amulet of Wonder and Eldritch Runestone Effects?

Amulet of Wonder and Eldritch Runestone Effects? 7 years 7 months ago #1

Curious if anyone know what the affect will be if one uses an Amulet of Wonder or Eldritch Runestone at Origins 2017?

Same as TDC and that will be the same for Gen Con (unless they decide that it needs tweaking).

This is so the character generators don't have to modify their tool 3 times.

Yeh, that woulda been helpful to post... From Token DB:

2017 TDC, Gen Con, and Gamehole Con: Become a Sygaldry Master. Show one runestone (any, other than Eldritch) to your coach:
• Gain triple the numeric effect (effects that cannot logically be tripled are unaffected)
• If the runestone normally effects only a certain attack/weapon type, it affects all your weapon and spell attacks, but not scrolls or items
• You may keep the runestone
• Optional: If you choose to turn in the runestone, gain 4× the effect instead of 3×
You still got hit points! Get back in there and fight!!

Can we get a clarification on the optional bulletpoint?
As written, this reads like a bonus ability of the AoW. So, you could use the sygaldry master ability with any +1 weapon damage runestone and turn in that runestone to get +4 to ALL your attacks (including spells). THEN, you could also turn in your 1 runestone per adventure...?

Is that the intention? I thought the AoW was supposed to give 3x bonus without turning the runestone in. Also, you can turn in a runestone for its regular effect (meaning +3 to ALL attacks, additional +1 to runestone specified attacks)
I could also see the thought behind allowing the player to use their sygaldry runestone as their one runestone per dungeon and get +4 to all attacks, as a small enhancement on the effect.

If you equip the Amulet of Wonder and just show (not turn in) a runestone, you gain triple the numeric effect. The effect of the AoW is to triple the runestone's power. If you choose to also turn in the runestone already tripled by AoW, you get one additional multiplier on the effect.

Using a runestone with AoW (either by keeping it for 3× or turning it in for 4×) counts as your one runestone per adventure. You can still use up to two Runestone Fitting Bases, but the runestones in RFBs are not boosted by AoW.

Whether you turn in the runestone or not, you may only use three runestones per adventure. So not counting the RFB options--which are unaffected by AoW--you have two runestone options with AoW. Pick one:
  • Keep the runestone token, get 3× the effect
  • Turn in the runestone token, get 4× the effect
Does that answer clear it up? If not, please let me know what needs to be explained better. I want to make sure everybody (players, coaches, and DMs) understands how this is supposed to work.

Ah, yes, clear now. I didnt realize it counted as your one runestone per adventure. I thought there had been discussion of getting +3 damage and turning in a non-damage runestone for its benefit, but i guess that is not an option.
