TOPIC: LFO Fri 9:36pm Moongate (combat)

Hello! Misses and I were lucky enough to get into true dungeon this year. Its only my second time to go to gen con and her first time there so we thought we'd try out an event everyone's been talking about. We've read up on the basics on the website and plan to go to the seminar. We have the MM combat run on friday at 9:36pm and the DAS puzzle run on saturday at 10:15pm. Heard its a good idea to get to know the others in your group and plan around things. Being new to the whole deal we'd love to get advice or know the others in our group discuss classes and such.

Welcome to the forums Chef, it sounds like you're doing the right things to prepare yourself to enjoy the fun!

One recommendation I have, tho:

It'll make it easier for other players in your runs to find you if you include that info in the name of your thread(s)

For example, if you re-named this thread "LFO Fri 9:36pm Moongate (combat)" and made another one called LFO Sat 10:15pm DAS (puzzle) - you can copy & past your initial post into that one - then if anyone is in your groups, they can post in the relevant thread & you can make plans together.

Most people who are Looking For Others (LFO) in their group will search via event titles & times, or - if you know it - the event ID.

For your specific runs it looks like there isn't a thread created yet, so feel free to make your own. Many of the slots for True Dungeon are taken up every year by either new players or people that don't frequent the forums, so your success with coordinating may be limited. But you are trying and that's a great first step!

Browse the site and forums for answers to any questions you have, and the forumites (don't worry, they aren't as bitey as regular mites. Usually...) are always happy to give advice and/or answer questions.

My first piece of advice would be take a look at the classes and decide which you'd prefer to play. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that someone else won't insist on taking that class, so maybe have a backup. Once you have that I would not memorize everything, but at least feel comfortable with all their abilities.

Second is to take a look at how equipping characters works. If you are at all familiar with RPGs or D&D in particular it should be pretty simple.

Third, I would be decide how much money you want to spend on TD. You can get through the adventures on normal just fine with the 10-pack of tokens you will get at the start, but its fun feeling powerful with better tokens. Something as simple as a +1 weapon will only run you a few dollars but make quite an improvement. $20-30 will get you a complete outfit that will be pretty decent. You can also go nuts and spend hundreds and absolutely crush monsters

If you do decide to buy some tokens (either through TD's website or one of the various markets out there), take a look at the character generator here: www.truedungeon.com/forum?view=topic&catid=5&id=155695 It makes it easy to see what effect a token will have on your character, and if you bring in your filled out sheet to the event, you get a free +1 max hp.
