True Grind GenCon 2016 - FAQ and Other Documents 8 years 4 months ago #1

Greetings Grinders!

We have released the following documents:

True Grind 2016 FAQ:

app.box.com/s/ljypqqknq47kdea7ybozj6k12ln1z6ed

True Grind 2016 Environmental

app.box.com/s/ox2w5yupb7waughuunarol6rqlhziaae

True Grind 2016 Party Card

app.box.com/s/5dy7tmx056yigh3xkmw0bupxmexzjusj

Main changes to the FAQ:

Q2: Specified special rule for a sub-class of saving throw.

Q4: Slight rewording regarding skill checks.

Q5: New effects of Amulet of Wonder, Eldritch Runestone, and UR Special

Tip 1: Explained why the morning and afternoon Grind sessions are 1 hour apart while the evening Grind sessions are 1.5 hours apart. In all cases, the event is 90 minutes long and please arrive at the official start time of the event.

Tip 5: Specified that the bonus for having your character stats and/or submitting an equipment list is +1 Max HP for each.

Updated Survival Stats

No significant changes to the Environmental Rules document. Did add details on the special rule for a sub-class of saving throw (same info as in the FAQ).

No changes to the Party Card. The 2016 Party Card will be identical to the 2015 Party Card (because we have some leftover carbon copies to use).

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks and good luck!

I noticed on the party card that there is a "one use" section with:
  • Druegar's Death Die
  • Pouch/Quiver
  • Figurine

This confuses me - Pouch of Tulz and Quiver of Anointment are 1 per room, whereas Druegar's Death Die and all Figurine's are 1 per dungeon.

Is there some special ruling for Grind on the Pouch/Quiver?

Do players pre-fill the Grind party card, or do DMs do that based on player pre-filled standard party cards? I ask because I'm not sure what to put in the: Immunities, Environmental, and Other columns?

The reason why these are there is to clearly indicate which players have the following tokens.

With the Pouch/Quiver, you have the potential issue that a whole party will all try to use the same Pouch or Quiver. My marking down which player(s) actually have a Pouch or Quiver, it prevents players from using it and then immediately passing it to another player to use as well.

The main purpose of the column for the Druegar's Die and the Figurine is similarly to clearly indicate which player has it. Otherwise you could run the situation where one player holds all the tokens for the party and they have 1 Druegar's Die. Without prior indication, they could just conveniently claim that whichever player dies first has the Die. Same with Figurines such as the Scarab, Cat, etc.

I've also found it handy to have those there, to sometimes remind the player if they have an item equipped, or which item...

Often when a player dies, they'll forget they have Druegar's Death Die... so a quick glance at the sheet and I can ask, "Do you want to use the Death Die at this time?"

With the Figurine, I've occasionally had players fail a saving throw and say, "I'll re-roll with my Cat figurine" and I can say, "You've already used the Phoenix Figurine, you can't equip both with only a 12 Cha."

As for the immunities/environmental/other stuff... Grind sometimes tracks specific effects, like "Can this player see in the dark?" but we don't want to print a card which has a "DarkVision?" column because it would be a spoiler. Or if we know there will be a monster with Mirror Image spells, we might mark "clear sight" down in that column for players who equip the appropriate token(s), so we don't telegraph our evil plans.

Aww I liked the Special as 5 free action (once per Round) from WYC :(

Could someone tell me what a "Web site URL" is. Is it a special form of scroll?

How will it work if multiple people want to use the AoW effect to attack twice in the same round?

Do we all need to announce our ability at the same time? Or can Bob and I both make initial slides, I announce AoW attack, get my damage counted, slide again to bump Bob's weapon, then Bob announces AoW attack, gets damage counted, and slides again.

1. You and Bob will both notify the DM before you slide.
2. All players slide
3. DM calculates damage for you and Bob
4. You and Bob then reslide (all other sliders still on the table)
5. All sliders now calculated

Grind question so thought I'd post here. Does initiative work the same as in a normal dungeon run? And is it beneficial to have Tokens that prevent you from being Surprised?

I want to say that in Grind the monsters always go first. But I can't say that's always true. Last year disguise could allow the players to get first action.

I also have seen surprise matter, possibly you avoid extra damage if you are immune.

Just wondering if Tokens like Charm of Awareness, Twolf's Helm, etc. are worth equipping.

Not as important as HP or AC or saves, but yes it could help.
