TOPIC: TEs in sealed runs

This year at Gencon we had the Tomb of Terror Redux as a full priced sealed run. While it was a lot of fun for both the veteran and newer players alike, there was a sense of frustration from some players I spoke with who either skipped the run completely or did it and felt that the value was lacking in only getting 3 pulls out of the box.

I love playing with new players and trying to get them into the game as much as playing higher level difficulties with experienced people, but with rising costs for in-person events it’s getting harder for me to do runs with less value at the end of the day. Would it be feasible for sealed runs priced at the top price point to be able to use (only) TE tokens along with the groups sealed pool?

I'm one of the people who opted not to run it because of the fact it was only 3 pulls. While I would love for it to have had full treasure the fact is, if it had, the runs would have sold out to vets and less new people would have been able to play.

100% This.

At Gen Con I think we want as many new people as possible finding out how awesome TD is. If only 3 treasure means more new players get the runs, that’s perfect to me.

As Payden & others said: The choice to have No TEs allowed was specifically to reduce competition for the run, so there would be more tickets available for newer players. Most Vets I know chose to only run ToT Redux once, or not at all, because it wasn't a good bang for their buck. So, it's working as designed.

I agree, though, that it doesn't really encourage token purchasing among new players, or can even make them a bit upset, if they bought a Treasure Enhancer (one of the more common PYPs for newer players) and then couldn't use it. If any changes were made, I'd love to see the ability to equip a single UR TE. It would let vets get a little more value out of their run, without making it too profitable, and would let Newbies see what a difference a small* purchase can make, to encourage them to take the plunge as well.

But hey - if it's not broken, it doesn't necessarily need fixing. The runs still sell out, after all.

Not being able to use TEs was the reason I only did a single run of the San Japan sealed, but at least it was a cheaper run with less rooms. I would have definitely run 4-5 more times with full TEs. Plus side, it got me thinking seriously about volunteering if future weekends are the same
