As Lazlo has mentioned, the issue is that it would probably only delay the issue for another year. And then next year we'd be in the exact same place. That's part of Lazlo's frustrations - we (as a TD community) have been having many of these "discussions" every year for a couple of years now and some people are just getting too weary of them.

As for the special Favor, since it is unique and groundbreaking, it is completely unknown whether or not Jeff would honor it if it was turned in by something other than Lazlo. Only Jeff can answer that question and I don't think he would (and I agree that he probably shouldn't).

If someone were to buy it and Jeff refused to honor it, that would be pretty terrible. I see no reason why Jeff shouldn't answer that question.

Actually as a collector the value of the favor is as a collectible. Using it would be like the tales of "iron man" magic (all cards in grave yard are torn up into little pieces)where cards that are now worth several thousand dollars were destroyed to cast creatures worth maybe $200. These stories are true as I played in such a tourney in beta days (with all commons)

I could certainly see Jeff only accepting this from Chad, since Chad did him the favor and it is basically an "IOU" for Chad to get a favor back. Perhaps that "IOU" isn't transferrable but is "soul bound" to Chad. I agree that only Jeff could answer that. And I do agree that for anyone that might purchase this from Chad, the true value is more as a unique collectible token than as a turn-in. Although I guess we don't know for sure that it is unique do we? Perhaps one or more other people have done Jeff a favor over the years and gotten one of these in return? It's certainly the only one I've heard of.

I've been playing Magic since almost the start (1993) and I've not heard of Iron Man Magic tournaments - although I do see from Google that it does go back to the earliest days. I'd never have participated in one myself - my collector gene is too strong!

My gaming group does have one funny anecdote along those lines though. Way back at the start of Magic, I was playing with some of my best friends, and after the game I took a basic land that was pretty worn, and that the other players could only see the back of, and said "this Serra Angel is just too worn to use anymore" and tore the card in half. One of my friends nearly fell out of his seat in shock and dismay - we still laugh about that to this day. :)

Chad, it's great that you did such a big favor for Jeff that he gave you this token - it can't have been easy for Jeff to print a unique token for it.
