So.... I’m a wizard.

I use mec.

I’ve seen several of my esteemed colleagues -extremely concerned- about the prospect of going down 1 CON on the kilt.

This confuses me.

I have tons of Hp.

I can’t remember the last time I was under 5 hp (other than being disintegrated on the rainbow bridge).

Can we talk about our builds here, and our mec usage, and maybe bridge the conceptual gap?

I’ll start:

Build related to HP:
RoSP - +1 con and +1 hp
Ioun Stone Garbet Cube - 2 con
Kilt if Tavernbane - 6 con
Full synergy charm - 10 hp
Ice crab hero’s earcuff - 2 con and 1 hp regen
5th level

Net result: +41 starting hp and 1 regen a room.

MeC usage:

I don’t double level 0 spells.

Sometimes I don’t double level 1/2 spells other than magic missile if combat looks like it’s going well.

I have a pouch of Tulz and I drink a potion of distilled leaking after using mec - although I’ve been doing this less and less.

There are also plenty of other hp boosting options, many of which are a few bucks:

The +3 hp charm
Wills dragon heard charm +4
Shirt of the underdark +4 (5?)
Ioun Stone garnet sphere +1 con
RoSP segment 7 (if you don’t have the rod)
Beavers if Fast Fitness +2 con
Shirt of Vitality +3
Belt if Vitlity +3
Earcuff of Vitality +2

So... what are we doing different?

I am super jazzed about +1 damage from the kilt set bonus, getting back 2 ac and ranged to hit, and couldn’t care less about maybe losing 5 hp, and I wish more wizards were having my expiernece here.

What are your thoughts?

Should also mention:

I pack Figurine of Power Salamander, Lamp of the Madrid and Effriti - which between them are usually good for around 20 healing.

I play wizard and don't have Ro7P nor Garnet cube so fewer HP. I use MEC and at HC and NM usually do it 3 times per room so -30HP. One good Giant AOE strike and I'm using Potion Deaths Door. I will have to try the Tulz and potion distilled healing trick.

So - I think the biggest difference is you use the MeC more than I - I might use it 3x in a boss room.

Do you use it for slide spells? Or Level 0s?

I don't either - I feel the price is to high - but that may be the difference.

I realized after I wrote this that full synergy is a big reason I'm OK - 10 HP is hard to make up.

The Wizard build for my sons group has 74 HP with full Synergy. If I Transmute both kilts, it will lose Tavernbane in favor of Deeper Dark and go down to 62.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Yeah - I think I'm down a bit from that - I was over 80 for one year with Shirt of the Underdark.

I've been slowly lowering it and have't noticed any ill effects - I think I'm around 60 now myself.

The hit to the hp is small and can be mitigated. I'm more concerned about the loss of the uber healing that use to keep us going without consumables. Add to that the cost of using the wands as backup and it's starting to get pricey.

It does help that we are getting the tome to bump our damage up a little but I'm interested in seeing where the loss of spell resistance will take us going forward.

The going back on the way that Lesser Maze works changes things too. After the first run through N1 at origins they realized there was a problem when I mazed the ogre mage three times in a row using maze, spelll storing, and crown of expertise. Their answer to it was to give him spell immunity which later changed at Gen Con.

We've been nerfed quite a bit both at hp and capability.

It's probably a lot more difficult without a +6 con kilt.

And Matthew psychic power is another 4 pt self heal.
