TOPIC: UGH. FYI for late-night Friday.

UGH. FYI for late-night Friday. 10 years 9 months ago #1

Someone posted this to the Gen Con Indy Facebook page a little while ago, an email they received from LiveNation:

"Please be aware that downtown Indianapolis will be a very busy place Friday, July 31st with several major events happening within just a few city blocks – Gen-Con at Indiana Convention Center (50,000+), Indianapolis Indians home game at Victory Field (13,000+) and One Direction Concert at Lucas Oil Stadium (40,000+).

Helpful hints to enhance your experience:

Due to traffic concerns, law enforcement may shut down Capitol Avenue to vehicular traffic before and after the show. South Street (between Capitol Avenue & West Street) will also be closed. Please plan drop-offs and pick-ups accordingly.

Drop off & pick up of concert fans will be directed to Rolls Royce Lot B near Madison Ave. and Merrill St. (668 Madison Ave). Vehicular traffic may enter from Madison Ave. or S. Meridian St. This is offered as a courtesy and availability is not guaranteed. Please plan drop-offs and pick-ups accordingly."

So traffic, dining, and drinking are all going to be horrible around the Convention Center Friday night. Just a heads up.

D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

The volunteer schedule says you 2 will be together in a drider costume. I wonder who will be the front and who will be the back...

Obviously somebody has to run the store while the madness goes on outside. As I raise hand that i've got duty in a training room during that same shift.

Kirk/Harlax where would be a good place to get a beer/food after that shift? I generally don't eat out that late in Indy.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I tend to eat out surprisingly little at GenCon so I'm not the one to ask, however if you guys end up going somewhere I may be interested in joining.

I am pretty sure the food trucks will be up and running until 11pm.... at least Thursday-Saturday. I know they are open on Wednesday due to the beer garden starting up, but not sure how late.

The Ram is good for the beer part and usually has a special themed menu card during GenCon. For just food, Noodles is a favorite and tends to stay open late during GenCon. Steak and Shake is consistently open late.

I'd be up for a bite afterwards, but not too late as I'll be back at it at 8:48 Saturday morning.

FYI, I'm coaching on the Sable Gauntlet Combat side that night.

I'm in Sable Gauntlet Puzzle,

I tend to live off Scotty's and Noodles during con. I just generally go a touch earlier. If it works out great, beats my other plans of avoiding my roommates.
