TOPIC: Noobs looking for group

Noobs looking for group 9 years 1 month ago #1

Hello all of you veterans out there!

This may be late in the game, but I have 3-4 noobs that are looking to join a group. I posted earlier this month looking for advice, and the most important one seemed to get into a preplanned group ahead of time.

Any direction on how to do so would be most welcome. We will mostly be working with the starter pack, but I will be purchasing some premade characters prior to the con so I should be decently equipped.

Hello Joe,
There should be a proliferation of people searching for groups starting Sunday when people get their ticket purchases settled once tickets go on sale.

Here are your options:

1. Buy your 3-4 tickets on Sunday through GenCon's badge system at noon Eastern, and then hope whoever has the other 6-7 tickets is in the forums and you can coordinate with them (e.g. determine classes, etc.)

2. Don't buy any tickets on Sunday through GenCon's badge system, try to find people on the forums after the fact who bought out entire runs and are selling part of their slots. This is risky, as you might not find any. If you are joining someone else's run, they are probably going to take first dibs on the classes they want.

3. Buy out an entire run on Sunday, then come to the forums to find people to full your open 6-7 slots. This is also somewhat risky as you could get stuck with extra tickets you can't unload.

Matthew gives great advice, those are pretty much your options. It really depends on how important it is for you to have a group beforehand and have your specific class. If it really matters to you, then you should just buy one or more blocks of 10 and try to fill them up. But that takes work and has some risk involved.

On the other hand I have had great success with just joining random runs, but it isn't guaranteed to be a good experience. If you get there 30min before the run you can usually choose and keep the class that you want to play.

I am doing both puzzle runs on Thursday with a group of mostly newbies, but we'll be doing it Hardcore as I'll be equipping them. It sounds like this may be more than you are looking for, but if not feel free to PM me with your classes and I'll see if I can fit you in. Honestly I haven't decided whether to just run it with 6 people or to fill it all the way up.

Right now until the this afternoon everything is all speculation of what runs who has (with a few special special exemptions (see GT and Lazlo). Anymore i try to buy out a run and backfil from forums once i get yes or no from indecisive hotel mates. There has been some years where i've gotten nothing in the ticketing that works and thanks to generosity of forum members here gotten into the runs i wanted.

Some of the best and works runs i've done have been pugs. I always try do one each year. This coming from a 4th year veteren here,

Good luck to those behind me in queues and danged to those ahead of me. For better or for worse see you'll all in the forums this afternoon.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I am aiming for a Thursday AM group that will have 4 veterans and 5 newbies. I'll be posting for the one opening after I know the time.

I am aiming for a Thursday early afternoon time that currently has 4 veterans and I will be posting for the 6 openings after I know the time.

Good luck to all. All that are not requesting the time slots I want that is. :P

In five years of playing TD, I have only once found other members of a PUG from posting in the forums. Your mileage, as they say, may vary.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir
