TOPIC: Will we miss a final animatronic if doing puzzle?

Will we miss a final animatronic if doing puzzle? 9 years 7 months ago #1

Last year a group of us had a blast running TD with our kids (age 10-13). We did the puzzle version and cleared every room. But apparently we missed a pretty cool animatronic monster at the end of the run.

Does anyone know if that will be the case again?

Thanks!

That would be a spoiler for Jeff to reveal if he'd like.
There is no way for us to be certain. Room 7 DMs know but are not supposed to reveal that.

If you're worried about missing content, I'd suggest doing a combat run as well. Remember there are 2 rooms different between the 2 types of runs.

Some years yes, some no. This year, so far Jeff knows, but he's good at keeping secrets.

But that's one reason many players do at least four runs each year, so they're sure they won't miss anything.

It really depends on the ending, but the short answer is that (in my experience) combat traditionally sees more big monsters.

In 2011 combat faced off against a sealich, puzzle did had a sealich present in the room while they attempted to solve the puzzle of her sarcophagus.

In 2012 the final rooms was shaped like a large L with the the dracolich swinging its head back and forth between the two branches (combat/puzzle)

In 2013 the major combat/animatronic was in room6 (cogwin/geargolem) and room 7 was a puzzle on both sides

So you millage will vary a bit but Jeff is generally really good about making sure you get a good show either way.

I think both of the last 2 years there's been a cool monster we could see over the walls from my group's puzzle runs (our wizard is oddly enough barbarian height in real life).

We suspected that it has been the last room of the 2nd combat run so my group is going to add just the 2nd run of combat in this year to see.

I don't know if we'll actually see something cool, but I can confirm other people are planning on doing what you're thinking of.

Echoing what others have said - this is why it's best (if you can) to do both combat and puzzle versions of each dungeon.

You may have missed a cool animatronic, but anyone who only did the combat run missed out on some very cool puzzles too, so it's a wipe.

Thanks all,

Sounds like educated guesses can be made, but it's a roll of the die in the end. It'd be great to run both versions of both runs but there's only so much time and money.

Hope you all got the time slots you want and pull some great treasures this year!

Peace,
Shawn

Perhaps, but the longing will pass over time.

When I was a a kid, my family moved and I lost contact with my friends. It's unfortunate, but that's the way things go sometimes. I don't know if I would say I "miss" them though. I made new friends--ones I would have never met had we not moved. Perhaps you'll feel the same about a big animatronic monster...?

For the humor impaired, this was a tongue-in-cheek post. Hopefully it was also funny, but one can never tell how these things will be received.

If you want to do some deep speculation, consider this.
The layout previously has always been Enter main doors start at room 1, end at back of convention hall and room 7. With Big monsters in the corners at the back.

The new layout IIRC has us enter and walk to the back of the convention hall to start room 1 and work our way back toward the front of the hall.

If there was a big animatronic at the end you might be able to see it when you walk in.

Very deep indeed Valetutto -- thanks for the food for thought.

Unless there is a long corridor to take us back to the front for room 1. I don't think this to be the case because it would not be an efficient use of space but it is possible.
