I'm going to assume I'm not volunteering since I haven't heard anything. Unless spots open up before event registration opens that won't change as I'll have booked my schedule with other events, dungeon runs, etc.

This is a bit of a shame since nearly every year, TD ends up short staffed as people back out right before GenCon.

Maybe it would be better for them to just book some extra volunteers now with the expectation of filling those slots later. And worse case scenario, you end up with some extra hands during GenCon.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think about the process, I guess I haven't seen much of it (this would have been my first year volunteering). It was something I wanted to try out to see how I liked it but it isn't a big deal to me. GenCon is my premiere weekend of the year for me so it is most important to have fun. Not having to worry about a volunteer schedule will open me up for more TD runs and other fun things.

Yeah, I wouldn't give up yet, this bit in particular from the newsletter suggests to hold tight: "We always have some last minute cancellations at this time of year, and we hold a good group of folks in reserve to fill these newly created holes in the schedule. Being one of these "not scheduled yet" volunteers is not a slight in anyway. If anything, it means we might think you would be great in more than one role, so we saved you to help fill in the gaps."

Besides, there are probably lots of people that got schedules that will want or need to adjust their stuff after seeing tomorrow's event releases. So I wouldn't change your plans/assume the worst for a few more days.

Out of curiosity, what kind of position did you apply for?

heh, I was thinking you meant the gencon event schedule was out a day early.

Part-time coach or puzzle DM. I think it is typical that full-time volunteers get preference and repeat volunteers get preference so I take no offense.
