TOPIC: Thanks for WYC!

I also found the non-TD events at WYC to be disappointing (I went to WYC last year and this year).

On the Saturday of WYC, I had a TD run from 6 - 8 PM.

Afterwards, all the TD players I could find were doing runs between 8 PM - 9 PM so there was no one to hang around with, talk to, play games with, or trade (though I later learned that Kim and her husband were around).

The scheduled board game events at WYC were a bit lacking, so nothing interesting at the time. And there weren't any good options despite the giant open gaming area.

So on the Saturday of WYC, I went to bed early (around 9 PM) because I was BORED and there was nothing interesting to do.

Kind of sad when you go to bed early at a gaming convention because you are BORED! :pinch:

I played lots of open gaming when not doing TD stuff. Some of it with TD'ers most of it with friends and a little with random people.

EDIT: I did have a car full of games I brought because I am local.

I thought the real point and attraction of WYC was the open gaming.

I really enjoyed playing Artemis at WYC.
I enjoyed some gaming, too, but the open gaming I did was in a friends' hotel room.

I really enjoyed the board games I signed up to play during pre-registration at whosyercon! The GMs were all very friendly and skillful at their games, and my fellow players were (mostly) pleasant (with one notable exception). Even the late night "Cards against Humanity" session was filled with fun, if somewhat twisted, folks. Relying on open gaming seems to work well for some, but I find I have more fun if I plan a schedule. I likely enjoy the "metagame" of planning almost as much as gaming. Maybe kinda like collecting tokens and building a TD character.. :)

Yeah, sadly with volunteering I didn't get to play anything besides TD. It was nice to put some faces to names, though. A few people even recognized me from my picture here -- even though I haven't posted that many times.

I enjoyed the volunteering a lot. Jeff and his lovely family went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and appreciated. That was not expected from a first time volunteer. Some of the regulars did too (Raven, Brad, Balthazar,...).

I have been going to GenCon for almost as many years as Jeff (I think 1 year less) and I have many friends and traditions there so I don't see myself ever volunteering full time there, but I will definitely continue to volunteer at WYC and Origins when TD goes there (wishful thinking).
