When I presented mine on Saturday I was told it was purely a 50% chance flip for an UR pick from this year or nothing at all.

I would have always taken the chance for the Mithral Coin, but for only a 50% chance only on a purple this year I decided to keep it for next year.

did this happen because the MCoF tokens ran out? or were people telling the wrong thing because they were misinformed?

I would like to find out so next year mistakes can be prevented from happening again.

That's what Nicky was told Saturday night as well. I told her "keep it, no question."

If she'd been told the correct answer I'd have told her the exact same thing, other than changing the first word to FLIP!!!

Hmm. I was told it was a flip and one side you got a 2013 other side you got a coin of fate.

Technically you weren't supposed to find out what it was until you turned it in and a director should have handeled it.

I handed mine in at the GT Golembane Puzzle run and the director came over and explained it was 50% UR this year and 50% Mithral Coin. In my case it came up tails so I got the Coin of Fate . I do know Brad did not experience this. Maybe that was just special because it was on the GT run?

I personally witnessed several non-GT participants, including me, do the flip with the parameters I previously mentioned.

It was either the UR or Mithral Coin. 50 / 50 shot. There was no bad flip to lose the special. All the flips I oversaw were UR's except for 1 Mithral coin.

Good question, Brad.

I am wondering about something though. You say you "presented" your UR Special. Do you mean you presented it to the Coach at the time of your run, and they gave you this misinformation? Or did they call a Coordinator/Director who gave you the misinformation? Or did you take your Special somewhere else?

It could be that someone was operating outside their parameters, and giving information which should have been left up to the Directors... and if that's the case, perhaps TD needs to be more clear with the Coaches to call a Director, instead of giving information out on their own.

Mine is not an official answer of course, just trying to figure out what went wrong, where.

This was my last pull on my last run on saturday night. I am unable to do anything on sunday due to volunteering commitments at gencon. I mentioned this at the treasure booth so I was told to go to the front desk.

I went first to the front desk (where AG members could check in items) then I was directed to the volunteer desk a short distance away where the person there spoke to someone on a radio.

That sucks. It sounds like some people who didn't know the answer talked to others who also didn't know.

I doubt it'll soften the blow any, but take this into consideration: If you had already done your last run of the con, you would not have been able to use your Special anyway. It is only used at the beginning of a run.

Sucks that you didn't get a chance at a Mithral coin.

I'm sure there are folks who will gladly buy/trade your Special off you though (I'd be happy to!) or you could hold onto it for next year and Jeff's mysterious "don't yell at me if you don't like it" turn-in effect. Or hold onto it for future years, since the effect is always changing.

Are you thinking of the Eldritch Runestone ? In 2012 and 2013, a UR Special could be turned in at any time because it didn't grant an in-game effect.

Brad, my suggestion would be to email Jeff (click the Contact link at the top of every page) and explain the situation. Perhaps something can be worked out.

I too was under the impression the special had to be turned in at the coaching room who would then called a director.

True it had no ingame effect so in theory it could be turned in later but technically the players should not have been aware of this until they made the act to turn one in.

I know I had an issue with a run that came in 13mins late and didn't present their specials until I was rushing them out of the room. I called the powers in charge and made them aware and they were going to follow up with them at the end of the run.

I actually already knew what you were in store for so I kept quiet to see how you did on your flip. I would have instantly spoken up if you were given different information or I would have taken you aside later to tell you if you got special GT treatment.

I'm very sorry you were given poor information.
We should make it more clear that token infomation is best asked of Coaches as we're typically the most trained in that department.

And no, I wasn't thinking of the Eldritch Runestone but the Special , which has clearly written on it the instruction to turn it in to a Coach (ie, at the start of an adventure).

2012 was the first time I saw the Special used outside of the Coaching room, but I presumed that was a "special circumstance" since the person who was flipping Specials had several to process.
