TOPIC: Guess the date when first printing tokens sell out.

Congratulations to Apteryx who won the guess contest. He was only off by about 4 hours. Very good.

As more and more people get more and more magic items that are strong, the game becomes harder and harder to balance between the haves and have nots.

A couple of comments if I may.

I think you can say this about any "collectible" game. I remember when I started Magic (beta), everyone was saying this. People with money did better. But that was PvP. The difference though is that TD is PvE and these "power" items aren't necessary. True they might help compensate for sloppy play but I think you will hear from player after player that a whole group went in with almost no tokens and everyone still came out alive.

Hopefully, TD will stay that way and won't REQUIRE you to purchase "power" items to survive. It would be a shame if this were true.

I couldn't agree more about having to purchase power tokens to survive. I think that is why the Hard Core dungeons will hopefully become a staple where better equipped parties will be put to task. The regular dungeons, though always a challenge, should maintain an atmosphere of "danger overcomable " by wit and playing skill (my English professors would feed me to the gators for this sentence.)

I buy tokens because I want to support TD - that is also why I volunteer to build and to staff for them too. But the collector in me is having a blast with the tokens - there is no hiding that.

Already on record about the group I was in for SoCal 04 - we had 10 bags and used maybe 15 tokens...one of which was rope to get across the bridge, another was the TTools, burned one holy water, one FArrow and one Melf arrow - the rest were mostly 1hp heals.

The adding of armor and weapons tokens to the mix should increase the ratio of token used this year.

Tokens = fun support. Making them basically "necessary" for TD = bad. TD should remain as "open" to all types of players as possible in order to foster more and more growth.

On another note... :twisted:... Gary since you're just doing it for fun... I dare you to go through one adventure this year without them...

I haven't finished step 2 yet...so taking on step 3 is not an option. nah nah.

Actually I was going to go mellow on the VIP run and may even take a roll like Rogue or Fighter to avoid spells and such. dunno - playing the VIP run by ear and for FUN FUN FUN.

The serious token run of course will be our TOKN date.

You know with all this "real" magic and such in our hands - it gives me a whole new perspective on using a charge from a D&D character wand...does the character feel the same way I do when I hand over a used up wand of Cures??? :smt089

Might I suggest you come up with a small list of special tokens to give to survivors of a Hardcore TD?

Let the survivors pull a token out of a bag. and there you have it! Yet another subset of tokens for people to trade/buy...

The tokens were originally just to find as treasure, and it was not until someone suggested that we sell them that this all got started. The tokens are just there for a bit of extra fun...and maybe a helping hand if you need it. We won't make the dungeons token necessary.

BTW, I just love the idea of "real" treasure for the dungeons. If I was just a player, I would be fighting Gary for President of Token Anonymous!

Anyway, gamers don't have to have tokens to survive the dungeon -- only their wits and physical skills. Solve the puzzles, disarm the traps and kill the monsters and you won't take a point of damage!

If anything I do have a compulsive collective personality...at least I limit myself to less than a handfull of addictions at one time.

Jeff, I applaud the decision to sell and to keep expanding tokens, the 2005 run is a good newbie friendly set which should not alienate anyone from playing since tokens were not really retired that could impact the game.

And lastly, I could not agree more - tokens are a blast. What would us adventurers do in the off-season if it were not for tokens to keep us hopping???

If Gary gets to be President of TA, can I be Treasurer.

I would like to set the dues (payable to the Treasurer) at one token per meeting. Just trying to help you all with your addiction.
