TOPIC: How rare is Very Rare? (Very)

I was just thinking about just how rare the Very Rare items are.

I believe that this printing was described as 500 bags. So there are 5000 tokens. Of the 5000, 3500 are common, 1000 are rare and 500 are rare. Each rarity has 36 items, so there are 100 of each common item, 27 of each rare and 14 of each very rare.

So until the next token printing, if you have a Very rare item, you have 7% of total supply in the world of that item.

I dont know how many of the ring of regenerations were passed out, but I would guess it would end up as a rare item.

I can't remember who it was but someone coined the term "Ultra Rare." Since these tokens (with purple print) were never available as part of the purchased bags, having one in circulation would be very unlikely.

Do you have any idea how many of the rings of regeneration were issued? Between GMs, NPCs and registration staff, it looked like there were about 2 dozen volunteers at GenCon Indy 04. Did each of them get a ring?

Just a guess, but I think there were 3 rings of 3 wishes and about 20-40 rings of regeneration given out. Obviously there are those willing to part with them because two wound up on e-bay shortly after the Indy con. You may find a volunteer that doesn't want to keep the token, but I think most are hanging on to them as a momento (I know I am).

It is hard to remember that night, I think it was about 3AM when they were passed out, or maybe it wasn't. If I remember correctly, the rings of three wishes were passed out at the staff party earlier.


Maybe there are some extra in a box somewhere Jeff has plans on releasing some day. Or maybe he will decide to do a limited edition run of ultra rares for each year (There's an idea Jeff, they could even have the year on them). Anyway, I am not sure any are readily available, at least any I am aware of...

I would guess that 30 Rings of Regeneration were given out. I bet we see some of those trade and used this year. I know I would lend mine out.

You know this gives me an idea. Maybe I will make up a dozen or so Purple Ultra-Rares for this year's events. I can personally put out 4 of them in the dungeon each day for adventurers to find. They will only be available to find. Sounds cool.

That'd be awesome, to find one of those. It just tingles me!!

I love that idea too. Either it's random, or a special prize for those that look in really out of the way places (like the tokens deep in the chasm last Gencon).

I think the concept of having different items in the dungeon is an awesome idea. Imagine the added excitement by a party discovering some previously unknown treasure or item. I know it could add complexity but is another print run of "Dungeon Only" tokens out of the question?

Perhaps a +2 weapon, magical armor, new scrolls and potions, or an unidentified wand. Players find a token that just says the word "Wand" on it (until identify is used) and then it is replaced with a Wand of Frost or something.

Wand of Summon Monster (the DM slides the puck with the group)
Belt of Giant Strength

Cloak of Displacement (+1 AC)

and many more.

The only problem is how to split the new treasure.

Congratulations, this is the most amazing idea. This will drive the token market crazy (in a good way). Imagine the traders descending of the poor fellow the exits the dungeon with the ONLY KNOWN DISPLACER CLOAK IN EXISTANCE. The only image that comes to mind is a group of sharks in a feeding frenzy. (The last time I was this excited about an idea, I was holding my first set of alpha Moxes from Magic: The Gathering)

It would really be nice to have some unidentified magic items in the dungeon so we could get some use out of the Identify spell.

And there is a simple way to split the treasure. Sell it me.
