TOPIC: New Rules for Omni Cube and Omni Orb Posted

New Rules for Omni Cube and Omni Orb Posted 2 hours 25 minutes ago #1

Thank you all for your good feedback on this issue. We have listened to many viewpoints, and we have tweaked and simplified things. I appreciate your help with all matters dealing with tokens!

The only change made to the Omni Orb and Omni Cube program from the long-existing rules is that Omni tokens can only be used in Legendary recipes dated through 2027. The Omni tokens can still be made in the future, and they will continue to be a part of some Mythic token recipes. At the risk of stating the obvious, but to be perfectly clear, Omni tokens cannot be used to transmute a Homunculus Legendary, of course.

Love it. Absolutely perfect decision and closed the very big loophole that could have been with Homunculus. Only thing I would say is we revisit it in 2030 when 2028 recipes get sunset but that's a long time from now.

Great work!

Thank you for taking the time to re evaluate the previous decision, which was causing issues for everyone who ordered tokens in preparation for the 2027 season.

Can we make sure that TokenDB has the Homunculus exception to avoid any confusion in the future? We always refer to TokenDB as the source of truth and I don't want to have to send someone in 3 years to look for this post.

Thank you Jeff! :)

I note there is a slight discrepancy between what you posted here ("Legendary recipes dated through 2027") and the latest tokenDB wording ("...in place of one Relic token that is dated 2027 or earlier."). That tokenDB text would permit substitution for 2027 tokendb.com/token/figurine-of-power-celestial/ which I think we all agree is undesirable.

I suggest revising tokenDB to emphasize the date of the legendary rather than the date of the relic, to match your post and to neatly fix the homunculus issue (since the legendary will be dated 2029).

This is an elegant and concise solution. Thank you.

I hope when 2030 comes around we can revisit updating the effective cutoff year from 2027 to 2028 to keep the ability to make older Legends alive going forward. :)

I like this idea to emphasize the 2027 date on the Legendary specifically. It would also remove any question about being able to use older relics that might get a legendary upgrade later with alternate paths.... looking at you Orion's Belt.

These token descriptions now refer to the date of the legendary recipe, rather than the date of the substituted token. Thanks for your feedback!

Jeff, thanks as always for listening to feedback. This makes a lot of people happy as it preserves purchasing decisions, which builds confidence in the game economy.

While you are still looking at this now, I want to raise up the concern about what happens in 2033 when 2028 Relic recipes are 5 years behind us and ingredients are scarce. Will there be a call then to open the Omni program to newer recipes? That is, update the criteria to move the cut-off year from 2027 to some later period?

When that happens, is there a risk of having the exact same argument about people making purchase decisions based on information that later changed?

We have an opportunity now to preserve the original intent of the ruling and avoid these arguments in the future. Could we preserve the original intent of the program by introducing a rolling blackout window, starting with 2028 recipes? Something to the effect of:
"Starting in 2028, a recipe must be active for 2 [or 3, or 5] years before you may use an Omni token as a substitution. For example, a recipe that debuts on 1 January 2028 cannot have an Omni token used as a substitute until 1 January 2030."

This would:
* Preserve the original intent of the program
* Respect 2027 season purchase decisions
* Avoid calls in the future to reopen the Omni program to new recipes
* Avoid similar situations where people made purchases based on information that was later altered

We have a chance now to future proof this. I'd love to take it.
