TOPIC: Saintly Runestone with spells ??

Saintly Runestone with spells ?? 1 month 2 weeks ago #1

The new Saintly Runestone adds +1 Sacred damage to Ranged attacks. If I play a caster class and turn one in would my spell damage increase by +1 because spells are Ranged attacks? I've always viewed the Runestones as benefiting Melee or physical Ranged attacks but I'm guessing this one would also increase spell damage??

It doesn’t have the “remember” text like all the other + Ranged Damage tokens have on tokendb but I don’t see why it wouldn’t also boost spell damage since it doesn’t say physical ranged attacks.

Guess flavor would be the runestone going on the staff or wand the caster uses to focus their magic and giving the boost.

Token database specifically mentions spells under damage bonus.

Can you provide the link that shows this? From what I can see the Saintly Runestone is the first Runestone that uses the word Ranged and it doesn't say anything about Spells. All of the other ones say Melee or Missile. And a lot of them reference a "weapon" which is why I've always equated these with being used in conjunction with a weapon, even though you don't need a weapon because it just says turn in at start.

From tokendb

Slot: Runestone
Rarity: Rare
Year: 2026
Source: Standard Pack
Classification: Equippable
Damage Type: Sacred
Damage Bonus: Missile, Mystic Staff, Ranged, Spell, Thrown

Spell called out with the damage bonus.

What I’d now like to know is does it work for Turn Undead? That’s a ranged attack I think…

Ahhh....ok thanks. I wasn't looking at the categories, was looking for something in the description. Good question on the Turn Undead.

I would say yes to turn undead. According to the players handbook

If a cleric has a Spell Damage bonus, the extra
damage from that gets added as a pool to the cleric’s
turn undead damage. If a cleric has a Spell Damage
bonus, everything mentioned above is still true. It is
only the extra damage from their Spell Damage
bonus that gets pooled.

Any ranged damage should also increase spell damage, so it should count when using turn undead. But as mentioned above, it would get added as a pool that can be allocated, but would not increase the damage to every monster.

Nice. Sounds spot on.
