TOPIC: Ioun Stone Silver Nugget - Seeking Advice

Ioun Stone Silver Nugget - Seeking Advice 2 months 3 weeks ago #1

I've played True Dungeon since 2009, but not until last year did I start actually doing transmutes and playing on levels higher than normal at GenCon.

I've transmuted a CoA (thanks Trent!) and bought the 2 nuggets, but starting as late as I did, I have not obtained the Silver Nugget.

My question is, do I go ahead and buy it, or should I let it go? Typically in VTD, there are enough silver nuggets between the party I can borrow one for the run, so its only at GenCon I'd actually use it.

Also, I thought I read some rumors TD would address this in the future, but I can't remember where I read that. Not sure if there would be something down the road that would provide an alternative to the silver nugget. But, how would they do that without devaluing the current silver nuggets.

If you have the time, and care to roll the dice I'd wait. My guess is that the ISSN will be reprinted a year or two after the 2027 TE Bead.

There have been a few different proposals of the Charm of Uber Avarice (name subject to change) being part of the next tier of rarity (mythic?) beyond Legendary. In at least some of those proposals the Charm of Uber Avarice would offer maximum treasure possible - so in that case you wouldn't need both the Charm of Uber Avarice and Ioun Stone Silver Nugget.

That being said, such plans may or may not come to pass.

Silver Nuggets are readibly obtainable - they just cost around $350.

I suppose it's up to you if $350 is worth 2 extra treasure pulls on runs you can't borrow it.

For my money, it's not worth it if you'd only be using it at 2-3 runs at Gen Con. You could turn that $350 into probably 100+ treasure draws from pre-order 10x treasure chips if you're trying to turn dollars into treasure draws. If you're trying to turn dollars into tokens for your build, you can get 3-4 good URs, or 1-3 good relics for that amount of money.

For this part, the answer is: TD may just devalue Silver Nuggets.

TD routinely makes in demand tokens or token effects available in ways that devalue the secondary market for the same or similar tokens - including (or maybe most especially) highly in demand UR treasure enhancers.

I hope they don't. I think the last Jeff said on the subject was that they might do Ioun Stones after the Beads, but that they would stack with the Silver/Gold/Platinum Ioun Stones instead of reprinting them.

That said, it is pretty much always a gamble paying high prices for TD tokens, as they are often/usually/nearly always either reprinted or made obsolete.

I don't like reprints myself. But people will complain they have to pay a lot to get one and push Jeff to reprint. If it came down to a reprint or yet another UR TE that stacks I'd much rather have a reprint.

Another reason I think they'd do a new one that stacks instead of a reprint is because there will be a ton more people wanting to procure a new one than will need the old one. I suspect most of the people that want a Silver Nugget already have one, and I think there are still extras in circulation that would instantly be liquidated if a reprint were announced. I suspect Jeff will accommodate people wanting a Silver Nugget by including the nugget bonuses in some sort of enhanced CoA. You could be right though, Jeff might be swayed by requests/demands for a reprint.

Compare the price of the ISSN to buying treasure pulls outright, at about $4 per treasure. How many runs would it take to beat that value, and how long would it take to get there? If you only need it for Gen Con then I imagine it would take a long time.

One could argue that you can make up the difference by selling the ISSN when you’re done with it, but as you can see from the discussion the worth of the token might shift dramatically. It might be worthwhile to see what happens when the mythic level avarice token effects and recipe are finalized.
