TOPIC: Spirit Pets and Ralson’s

Spirit Pets and Ralson’s 1 month 1 week ago #1

With spirit pets being more common, would it be possible to make a slight rule change to Ralsons Pendant of the Yew?

Allow the use of Spirit Pets as the Animal Friend and allow the Ranger to get the token back at the end of combat. The spirit pet can follow the 1/game rules similar to the Trinket of Trollform.

Ralson’s animal friend perk is a lot of fun and we often bring in stuffed animals for the thematic part. It would be very much appreciated to keep that ability in the game and not phase out due to supply. While also allowing more practical use of spirit pets.

It does look like trinkets were added to the TokenDB. However it would still be nice to see more spirit pets on the board.

As someone who would totally benefit from this due to owning Ralson’s and a Spirit Pet, I wholeheartedly agree. :) =) B) :side:

As someone who DMs and almost never sees Spirit Pets in use due to their low strategic value in combat... I would also agree with this!

Also agree that this would be a positive change and allow spirit pets to seem more relevant.

+1 to spirit pet animal friends with Ralson's. Since Iktomi's occupies a similar space with the use of potions and trinkets, polymorphing into spirit pets could also be a fun effect.

+1 to this as well. Spirit pets would be awesome with Ralson's and as a poly option for Iktomi's

I won't hijack this thread, but another good reminder of why I want to start petitioning for Spirit Pet to be a free action, with one use per party per combat round (think Ghost Accelerator).

I'm not terribly clear why any spirit pets were made other than the Red Dragon, but, since we have them, including one that someone may think to transmute, there's little reason to only make them more useful to certain classes at a legendary level.

Spirit pets have too many restrictions and what they do do is easily replaced. Different restrictions could be lifted, with whichever that is lifted having a substantial impact on how players use them.

To preserve a core idea, I would retain the "You may only bring a single spirit pet with you on an adventure."

What I would drop is the 1/game. I thought about once per room, but my give a damn is busted - just let someone use their spirit pet as many times as they want. Red Dragon may actually be taken seriously at that point.

Sure, melee builds get no real use ... still. Makes missile builds sexier.

... But, maybe not actually any better. Spirit pets have no to hit bonuses with only Red Dragon having a good damage wheel. That someone may actually want to be able to Red Dragon all over the place and chase an Eldest Dragon Orb would help mitigate just how much of a letdown it was to complete Eldests.

Alchemicals don't currently work in VTD, but, if number of different spirit pets remains under control, should be able to code apps to enable spirit pets in VTD.

Actually, my Dragon pet was useful in combat. I got to slide my melee weapon for a normal hit and the Dragon was used to knock two pucks of my teammates into hits that were previously misses.

And considering how unique the Dragon pet is I vote for them having no limits on their usage.

How did you slide both in the same round?

While you were able to do this, note that one shouldn't be able to make a melee attack and use a spirit pet in the same round.

Well... I just learned something new today. I don't play enough anymore so the rules like that get lost on me.

That makes no sense, though, because the Dragon pet is a unique animal in that it thinks and acts like a regular creature. Think of it as a Police Officer with a K-9 companion. The Officer can restrain someone while his dog helps. If the TD rules for Spirit Pets were in the real world it would be silly for the Officer to say: "Okay, boy... you attack now and I'll help restrain the perp next round." LOL!!

And staying in the real world let's imagine this...

Officer [to K-9]: "Sorry boy... you helped restrain the last perp. You can't do anything the rest of our shift."
"It's treason then."
