TOPIC: Need advice on liquadating tokens

Need advice on liquadating tokens 3 years 4 months ago #1

Hello!
I haven't been active or played in many years and I am now looking to just clear out all the tokens I have around the house. Could use a bit of advice on the best way to do it.
I have piles of C/U/R that just never were sorted and traded in that I am unsure of how to move. I could sell them as lots on eBay or whereever. Or spend time to send them for trade tokens and then sell those? I am just not sure.
I also have my usual TD run set ups, at least the parts that haven't sold slowly via ebay the last couple of years. Plus some random binders: both the sleeve style and the coin holder style.
It will take me a while to get a list together of what I have left.
Open to any suggestions

Thanks!

Probably you would need to list the rares, ultra rares, and transmutes here. Many players are looking for specifics and you may have what they seek.

Many of us always like buying bulk lots for transmuting or collections, or just outright resale. If you have woodies, those also have a few collectors salivating.

I have no doubt many more people will offer advice, or even offer to buy the entire collection. I myself would be interested in the bulk commons & uncommons if I had some extra money on hand.

As Dave said, there are a couple of ways to go. You might get more (but have to do more work) if you post the higher-value items separately, so people who want a specific thing will pay for that particular item.

You could also post lots, but might not get much interest if the items don’t have general appeal.

If you want an sanity-check of what your collection might be worth, you might want to check in with Trent of Trent’s Tokens or Kirk of TD Tavern to get an estimate. (Or find out if either would be interested in purchasing the whole thing.) Other collectors might be interested too, if you post in this thread about what you have.

One easy way to get a list of what you have is to use the True Dungeon Tokens website to track your collection, and then export it as a CSV file.

In addition to what others have said, things that might be worth listing separately:

1. Monster trophies.

2. Trade goods (including Golden Fleece).

3. Completion tokens.

4. GP tokens.

Right now might be a good time to sell-for-transmuting some items - Alchemist's Ink, Alchemsit's Pachment, and Philosopher's Stone have both been selling for well above their 3 year averages recently. It might be worth sorting out the ingredients there - e.g. I bet you could sell 10 AI "worth" of potions for $50.

I haven't had much luck selling in bulk. I would consider sorting them, recording what you've got in a google docs spreadhseet, and sharing it here for offers.

Good luck!

As BeLinda mentioned, I'm always interested in buying lots of tokens. You can just give me counts on anything rare and lower. That's the quick and easy option. But if you are ok putting in the effort, then over time you can bring in more cash selling on the forums.

I also offer two consignment options that are sort of middle of the road. In both cases you have to itemize some or all of your tokens. With one method you ship them all to me and you get paid as they sell. With the other method you hold on to them and ship them as they sell. Or you can do a mix between the two.

Personally I can't recommend eBay. After all of the fees I think you tend to get less cash than any other option mentioned, and it's a decent amount of work. Plus I think eBay just sucks.

We buy, sell, and trade True Dungeon tokens. We also have a convenient consignment program where you can sell your own tokens.

I played from 2008-2017 so I have very old transmutes and completion ones that power creep has likely left in the dust over the years. I will have to dig out the boxes and sort them. I do have gold, trade items (all of which were updated to the new backs), and some monster bits that are pretty old.

As others have mentioned taking some time and inventorying and listing here will likely result in higher sale prices.

I too am often interested in bulk lots.

The trick with selling in bulk, imo, is breaking the huge bulk into appropriate sized/valued lots. Too small and it's not worth the cost of shipping. Too large/expensive and you start to compete with $1k orders or just have insane shipping costs (multiple large flat rates).

I will give a quick plug that www.TrueDungeonTokens.com lets you track the collection by not just token name, but also year and back color. If you're willing to put in a bit more effort, you can also add in a quantity of items For Trade and generate a forum post with those quantities. You can read a bit more about that here:

Add me to the list of potential interest. 2003-2010 tokens, in particular, seem to gather more interest from collectors who may be willing to pay a bit more to get a handful of tokens needed to complete their collections.

There are a handful of items between 2007 and 2017 that have more value than others that are worth noting that might be part of your "usual set-ups" going beyond C-R:
*any token used in transmuting Charms of Avarice
Nightshade's +2 Short Sword
Ekdtar's Tinkerer
Hourglass of Imprisonment (If you have that, PM me!!!)
Libram of Looting
Sniper Spectacles
Cabal items
Druegar's Death Die
UR Figurines 2007-2015
+2 Assassin's Crossbow
+2 Deadly Drow Mace

For items below UR - Censer of Sacrifice comes to mind as having higher value

I would also recommend any years where you have complete sets of common-rare - sold as a set, those will definitely fetch more. We've seen ebay auctions for sets from 2010-ish go for about $400.
