TOPIC: How do you organize your tokens for larger collectors?

How do you organize your tokens for larger collectors? 7 years 1 month ago #1

I'd love to hear what people use for organizing their token collections.
Until you have more than a few hundred, it isn't terribly hard. Casino chip cases or cases for American Eagle coins work just fine and continue to work well for bringing what you actually use in runs to a convention.

The challenge for me is what to do to organize the tokens that generally stay at home?

* Tokens I'm planning to transmute into trade goods go into freezer bags by category until I sit down and individually group them for shipping to TD. This works ok but is a bit of a pain.

*Tokens I am planning to keep such as consumables beyond what I bring to a con I keep in casino chip briefcases. That means digging around to find them and they are only organized by "potions" or "scrolls", etc.

*Tokens I am saving for potential transmutes I just keep in baggies in a case with trade goods and gold
*Interesting non-consumables that I might use in the future are also keep in their own casino chip cases or American Eagle trays. I was trying to do it by type of equipment but between the interesting tokens and prior year copies of each token, it just doesn't work since they can't all fit in one case.

As is, it takes up half of a room and takes me forever to find individual tokens. Any suggestions for a better way to organize them? Thank you!

Fred

I had the same kind of problem until I bought a bunch of THESE from Trent.

I like them because they fit 40 each (perfect for commons/uncommons/rares sets) and they stack up to 11 per section, which is just the right amount since the most I would want of any single item is usually 10.

The fact they are clear means you can also see all of them from the top so can peruse the collection, and they stack fairly nicely.

I have 3 of them set aside for potions/ammo/scrolls that are filled with the kind of things I would use regularly.

I know it's not too different from the poker cases, but I like the ability to look inside and quickly find what I'm looking for, as well as the nice fact that they stack in such a convenient number.

I have like others plastics trays. Mine are technically for fishing (Shimano) that has a bag that I can carry 8 to 9 of the trays. This is because I am carrying 12 builds with is over 2 trays, 1 tray of potions, 1 tray of scrolls, 2 trays of trades, 1 I call the backup (which is a hodge podge of stuff that I may need to pull out fast). I try to leave the tray of potions and scrolls out when we run the dungeon to save for weight but it is with me at Gen Con. I have more trays for long term storage that I leave at home. Think monster bits, ingredients for eventually legendaries, completion tokens, trade goods.

This is similar to the bag I have. I have 2 and they are between 10 and 15 years old, so they are slightly different.

The trays are identical to these

but lost way less (5 to 7 bucks when I bought them).

Tokens sit in them really well 10 to 13 per slot (1800 to 2300 tokens) per tray depending on how lose you want them in each slot. The cases are very durable, I have only broke one (well I didn't break it but that is another story). The fasterners on them do eventually break off but they still close fine so I keep using them. This is after as I said 10 to 15 years of use for first mini and last last 10 years for tokens.

I (and the rest of my group has 1 complaint. Because you can fit so many tokens in them easy and so many trays in the bag so easy, the bag gets really heavy really fast. The strap on the bag was not designed to carry 30 to 50 lbs. I haven't had a strap break and that is lots of use including walking a mile at 50+ lbs of tokens (another story). The strap just isn't padded enough for that much weight on your shoulder.

I use the plastic tackle box compartments with dividers for storing the Tokens I keep. I found some that are extra deep that hold a fair amount of Tokens.

This is probably much more than you are looking for, but since you mentioned half of a room... this is where I sort my tokens to-be-transmuted into:

And this is how I store my consumables (easy access in groups of 20):

We buy, sell, and trade True Dungeon tokens. We also have a convenient consignment program where you can sell your own tokens.

For travel, I had been using an American Eagle coin case (MB10). The problem is that isn't isn't constructed well enough for the latches not to break or come loose with 15+ pounds of tokens in it. www.onlinecoinsandcollectables.com.au/collections/cargo-display-cases

It it were more sturdy, I would definitely stick with it. I'm not sure I can reinforce it short of having a tie-down on it.

I also had trouble with traditional casino chip cases (since casino chips are almost the same dimensions as tokens) in that they weren't study enough either.

I recently found a much better heavy duty casino chip case ( www.discountpokershop.com/versa-games-500pc-deluxe-poker-chip-case-gray-p-655.html ) that can handle 20+ pounds without trouble but I miss being able to just pull out a sheet that has a near complete build all set for me - with the casino cases, you have rows of chips you can organize by type but it's more work in the training room to pull everything out.

In terms of carrying items commonly used - the armbands/bracers from Trent's that are magnetic are great for 6-8 tokens on a run. I also carry small tubes of 15-20 tokens by type (healing potions, scrolls, random gear, etc). Now that I can carry everything in a run, the next step is to cut it to absolute essentials for a single run. For me, I'm thinking:
5-10 healing potions ranging from 5pt to 10 pt
1-2 raise dead items/potions
5-10 status effect potions (cure poison, etc.)
10-20 scrolls (1 or 2 of each type likely needed)
5-10 wands (2 different damage types with multiple copies of those)
Tube of random gear (rope, grapple hook, etc - though - I can count on one hand in 5 years how many times I've every used it).
That's a total of 50-60 tokens that will fit into 4 small 15-20 token capacity tubes (kept in a medieval style belt pouch)

For long term storage (based on suggestions from this thread), I'm using clear plastic craft organizer cases with movable slots. It's ok but I'll keep looking for improvements from here...

For consumables I was looking at something like the D&D Dice Bag though I haven't bought it yet and can't confirm if it works well for holding 8 various consumable types.
