What is TD's policy on using a proxy for your weapon? I'm concerned with using legendary weapons and losing them. Last year someone lost their legendary viper fang for awhile (eventually someone found and returned it). I rather not have that stress and worry of losing one.

My group used to use proxy tokens for weapons for exactly that reason, and never had any problems with it up until a couple of years ago. Then, we had several DM's slide them back to us and require us to use non-proxy tokens, which cost us a lot of time to pull out and switch. And, we had one really annoying situation where I'm sure a certain AC preceded us to the next combat room, as that DM slid our weapon tokens back without even looking at them. We had all of the actual weapon tokens in my binder and offered to show them to the DM if we could continue to slide the proxy's, but that wasn't allowed.

So - I'd say very clearly the rules are that you can't use weapon proxy tokens, although I'm not sure if that is a written rule or an unwritten one. If you do, from our experience, some DM's won't notice/object, but some will. After that year, my group stopped using weapon proxy tokens. It's also why I'm never planning on getting any Legendary weapon tokens for our group, I don't want to risk them getting lost.

I wasn't willing to take the plunge on a legendary weapon until the magnetic sliders came into being.

I would not recommend using proxy tokens.

I agree Harlax, I feel a lot more comfortable with an expensive weapon token in the new sliders.

For added protection, I put a band of glow-in-the-dark tape around mine so even if they should somehow fall off the board AND free themselves from the magnetic field, they're easy to find--even in total darkness.

Very timely question and answer as I'm about to send in for my first Legendary weapon. Thanks for this, gang!

Since the new sliders came out I have zero concerns about losing a weapon with them popping out. A ton of great work came I to being for them and it is really appreciated.

In my experience, the number of times tokens go flying off the table is relatively small, even with the old sliders, and I’ve never seen one go missing for more than a few seconds, except one that took us five minutes to find.

The number of tokens I’ve seen disappear altogether in my eight years of playing and seven years DMing is... well, zero. The only one I know that vanished was a kid walked away from one and it was presumably pocketed by some jackhole.

Which doesn’t mean it never happens. I’ve heard of it happening, and if it happened to you then I’m truly sympathetic. But it seems like the concern is disproportionate to the actual risk.

And now we have magnetic sliders. I was one of this who said I’d NEVER use a legendary weapon, and now I have two, and I’m really not worried about it anymore. YMMV

Interesting concept.

I'm a little nervous this year since both my weapons are Legendaries. I has the Asp Viper Dagger and Thor's Hammer so I really have to not forget to leave anything behind. I was think of putting a sticker on the back so it marks it as mine with some info and does not permanently damage the token.

the new pucks are way better.

if you are worried, here are some tips.

Set it up, so the first two that slide go to opposite sides of the board. Then if a token/slider goes off, they can go right after it.

We always do that. we have never lost a token...even before the magnets. I had one go into the access hallway and roll 4 rooms down. The person on the side was after it once it hit the floor

Note: the orange backs of legendaries glow under a black light. The rules permit using your own light source when searching for lost items. I carry a small black-light flashlight I picked up somewhere, used by bouncers to check for hand stamps I suppose, for a few bucks somewhere, but I’ve never had to use it.
