TOPIC: Thoughts on my ranger build

Thoughts on my ranger build 10 years 10 months ago #1

This all with tokens I have. Focusing mainly on a ranged build

+1 Long Sword
+1 Silver Short Sword
+2 Keen Longbow
Archer's Buckler
Hat of Readiness
Lenses of Accuracy
Amulet of Mugwort
+1 Cloak of Resistance
Shirt of Venomward
Chainmail of the Vale
Bracers of Archery
Gloves of Archery
Ring of Pelor
Ring of Protection +1
Belt of Ogre Power
Boots of the Marauder

Any other cheap quick-hits I can add to make it a borderline Hardcore viable ranger? I was thinking of adding a +1 save cloak which seem to be a few bucks on ebay.

If you are staying with Reds/Greens, then the Hat of Escape would be better IMO. Any Charms, you can wear three, any ear rings, you can wear two.

Hat of Escape wastes time. Instead look at Cap of the Owl (+1 Will Save), or Footman's Cap (cannot be surprised).

For the Neck Slot look at Amulet of Armor (+1 AC), or Bezoar Amulet (+10 vs Poison Saves).

Get some Ioun Stones. The common (-1 shock) from last year is cheap . . .
Iridescent Sphere from this year is probably going to be useful. Iridescent Spindle is better, and pretty cheap. Ruby Rhombus is from this year, so it will probably be useful.

Cloak of Resistance +2 should be in your budget. Saves are way more important than AC in TD (AoE vs Targeted attacks).

As you are, you are sufficiently geared to tackle, and possibly beat Hardcore.

Hat of Escape is a token that can slow things down with the die roll, and once a successful roll is made, the monster doesn't need to roll again. I would look at some Ioun stones and the Charm suggestion is a very good one.

Your build is off to a good start.

Bump up those saves: Consider a WIL Ring from last year, and a +2 Cloak of Protection.

Ioun Stones are useful, and pretty available. Use the +1 Save version and the "Sustain without Air"

Earcuffs, too. The "Cannot be surprised" version comes in handy, especially in conjunction with a ranged build.

I'll have to look into getting some earrings cause most of mine are pretty lame (like understanding languages).

I do have the Ioun stone of Ruby Rhombus but the only other ones I know I have are underwater movement restrictions or breathing without air. Beryl Prism seems nice but looks like it runs about $15 (plus shipping) at gamingetc. Seems a little pricey for +1 to saves.

I have three charms and they are

Charm of Enlightenment
Charm of the Mirage
Charm of the Urchin

Charm of the Urchin just seems like bad luck to me :)

The +2 save robe is almost the same price as the +1 so that seems like a no-brainer.

You might want to keep an eye out for a cheap Draco-Lich Claw Charm: The +2 to ranged and melee damage would be especially potent in your hands.

Another under-appreciated Amulet is the Dragon Tooth Amulet, which sometimes sells undervalued. The 50% magic resistance should be increasingly useful.

There are a lot of beryl prisms around. Ask the sellers on the forum. I think you can get it much cheaper than $15. You should make a list of the best tokens you want and post it on the forum for purchase and see who offers how much.

I know the draco-lich charms run $75 on the cheap side. If I could get one from $50-$60 I'd consider it but anymore than that and I can't really justify it to myself.

Ugh! What am I doing! I forgot one of the best tokens in the game!

Cadaver Charm!

Well Worth the price, and would be very helpful for you.

No problem. I'd recommend biding your time on this one, and jump on it in the $25-$40 range.

$25-40 range? I put one up for sale last week for $70 and immediately received three messages interested in the token.
