TOPIC: Tokenomics of GP

Tokenomics of GP 13 years 2 months ago #1

This post is a general forum of discussion for the value of GP to Cash in reference to the 2012 token set.

From the math I have done so far I figure that while the average GP value of GP tokens is higher this year, the probability of getting a GP Token is actually somewhat lower.

Due to this fact, I am surmising that GP values will rise - my rough estimate is that the $$ to GP will actually increase to scale at $0.028 per GP from $0.025.

Mind you this is not taking into effect any GP currently in circulation and is solely based on calculations I have done comparing the 2011 token set to the 2012 in regards to values and probability of getting a GP Token (of any rarity) with respect to the current genrally accepted Cash to GP value stated above.

Has anybody else looked into this? I'd be curious as to what other results and factors you may be using!

Thanks!
-Fizz

EDIT: I fixed my calculations based on the the 10-pack and not just tokens at large. This has altered probability and thus changed the projected value to: $0.033 to 1GP.

Didn't the increased value of each GP token on average offset the decrease in the number of GP tokens? I thought Jeff had said that the total GP value hadn't changed. If that is the case, I don't think it would affect the value of GP. Now, the ending of Artifact Tokens and the beginning of transmuted tokens may impact GP values, but I'm not sure if it is up or down.

i would say it will probably be close to $0.03 this year..everyone is going to want to make those items..if they have everything else..it could approach $0.04 again...if people really want those

I'm expecting it to decrease, figuring the big guns have been working aggressively the past years to get GP for artifact bids. Now that Legendary are fixed price, I'm guessing the heavy hitters might be looking to build one of each. Unless lots of folks step up to build the big chase tokens, GP might fall from its current $0.025.

I'm not sure if the "current" value IS $0.025. The only person anytime recently who was actually selling gold for $0.025 was Avaron, and that was because he needed to raise money for real life matters. Everyone in the trades and sales section seems to state that they'd accept GP as an alternative to cash at $0.025/GP but I've not really seen people offering to BUY tokens for, let's say, $125 OR the equivalent in GP. The $0.025/GP ratio being found primarily in sellers leaders me to believe that the current rate is already past $0.025.

Average GP is up 100GP for a 1K order. This is due to commons; there is 100GP this year versus 95GP last year in a set of 40 tokens.

The value I've found so far at sites like gamingetc, and ebay is that the amount of money per gold piece is $.04 per 1 GP.

The auction this year took around 1.3 million gold pieces out of circulation. There was at least one guy that still had 375K on him So there may be a bit of gold out there yet. With that said, I think gold is more like .03, and it has been that way for years. I haven't understood where the .025 came from. Now with it taking ~45K to make one item (2,3,5K to make relic, and then use relic and 25K + 15K/Ring to make legendary item), I think the demand/price will go up slightly. I know I don't have enough gold to make these pieces, especially in the quanity I'd like to have, and I still need enough gold to make the enhanced and exalted items. In order to have just one of each, you would need 140,580 gold.

3 relics x 40,000 = 120,000
1 enhanced x 80 gold = 80 gold
2 exhalted x 250 gold = 500 gold
2 relics x 5,000 gold = 10,000 gold (need one to keep and one to make a legendary item)
2 relics x 3,000 gold = 6,000 gold (need one to keep and one to make a legendary item)
2 relics x 2,000 gold = 4,000 gold (need one to keep and one to make a legendary item)
TOTAL - 155,580 gold

.....and I am sure that just one of each won't do for a party of 10.

i can see gold averaging .03 per gp. i know i will selling some of mine at that anyways. yes, i will be opening the token vault to sell some of my extras. i don't really neeeeeed 10 HoP or 8 AoW or even duplicate sets of UR's. these will be for cash only.

on an unrelated note...it is good to see i'm not the only one to have to get 2 of each relic (1 to keep and 1 to upgrade).

Wow, Smak, you've got 10 HoPs and 8 AoWs? I'll bet the PM's are already pouring into your inbox with offers for your extras. I'll certainly keep an eye out for any wooden rarities you put out for sale :)

Silly question... would wooden gold tokens (esp 'rare' ones) have any premium over current gold tokens?

It probably depends on the year. I know I'd trade at a premium for wooden GP/Gem tokens from 2003, 2004, and 2005a. 2005b and especially 2006 are more plentiful, and might only go for a small premium (unless you find someone needing them to complete a set).

If you've got an older wooden tokens, send me a PM and I'll offer you a good deal for them :)
