TOPIC: Bows and Crossbow types

Bows and Crossbow types 14 years 9 months ago #1

Looking over these, I have a few observations/questions?

1) All crossbows (except the repeating one) require a one round reload, correct? So, the +2 "light" xbow of frost has no real advantge from being a "light" xbow then, as opposed to a heavy xbow?

2) Can a Ranger fire 2 hand xbow in a round since it's a 1-handed weapon? I am presuming not, but wanted to double-check?

3) Since the hand xbow is one-handed, I presume the advantage (other than Rogue availability) is that you can use a shield (or Orb of Might) while using one? I presume that means you can also use the shield the round you reload it also?

4) The only advantage I see of using a shortbow (other than special properties) over a longbow is that you can't use a shortbow if you are a rogue, as range really isn't an issue in true dungeon. Am I missing something on this?

I'm pretty sure only the Heavy Crossbow requires the extra round to reload - the 'Light' and 'Hand' versions do less damage, but can be fired every turn.
Blimey!

1) My understanding of the light and hand crossbows is they do not have the reload penalty. The flip side of this is they do less damage than their heavier cousins.

2) No. The double attack is only available to the Ranger during melee attacks. The Monk can make two ranged attacks at the same time if he is using shuriken, but that is the only example I can think of for two ranged attacks in the same round.

3) I would assume you could use a shield with this, but Dave will probably have to weigh in on this.

4) Nope, you're not. The shortbow is usable by more classes than the longbow, due to its smaller size. Of course, this also means slightly less damage. I suppose the other advantage is there are more cool magical shortbows than longbows in the game. They both use the same ammo, so an arrow token works for either long- or shortbows.

Yes, that is correct.

Is that correct that the light and hand Crossbow do NOT Have a round reload penalty?

Dave answered this in the Token Guide Feedback thread.

truedungeon.com/trueforum/index.php?topic=7109.msg116973#msg116973

Only the Heavy Crossbow requires a round to reload. All other types can be reloaded and fired in a single round.
